Analysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists are often presented with unusual requests from patients. Other times they face challenging circumstances under which an analysis or psychotherapy may have to be conducted. In this paper, Dr. Abbasi presents detailed clinical material from the early part of an analysis in which the patient had the unusual request not to have regular analytic hours while working at an analytic frequent. She shares what she and the patient learned about the request and how their handling of it influenced the treatment.
