Welcome to the Movement to Work October Newsletter

Movement to Work (MtW) is a vibrant not-for-profit coalition of UK employers, youth-outreach organisations, training providers and government allies – all aiming to level the playing field for young age people aged 16-30 facing barriers to work.
See below for our latest updates!

A message from our CEO - Sam Olsen
Sam Olsen

Welcome to our latest MtW Newsletter - it's jampacked with exciting updates from across the network. Please take a look and share with your friends and colleagues. I am particularly pleased to be launching our Virtual Social Mobility Awards - it's so important that we recognise and celebrate some of the amazing achievements we have seen this year, it will need to be virtual but we promise you the same level of MtW profile.

It's a tough environment out there for both young people looking for work but also for businesses navigating the implications of local lockdowns. However, we are seeing great experiences being created as we continue to collaborate across the Movement.

I'd like to take the opportunity to again thank those of you who made it to our MtW Forum in September - it was a great success with fantastic contributions from across our network including Tesco, BT, Prince's Trust, Ingeus, and our regional contacts at Greater Manchester and North of Tyne Combined Authorities. I'm sure you'll all agree with me, however, that the star performances were from our brilliant Youth Ambassadors Broch and Reece - thanks again to them both for sharing their stories with us. Do take a look at our videos when you get a chance, a great reminder for why we do the work we do!

It has been another busy couple of months here at MtW and my thoughts are with you as we continue to navigate the road ahead. We're continuing to support with the continued roll-out of the Government's Kickstart Scheme - a great opportunity for employers and young people to create some fantastic experiences. Make sure you take a look at our new page and find out how we can help.

Enjoy the newsletter! I hope you find it an interesting read and spot some great opportunities to get involved with. #YoungPeopleWork

Please get involved and find out more on our blog HERE. If young people are unable to attend the event, please do take part in our youth survey.

We hope it will serve as an inspiring and positive moment to celebrate all that has been achieved despite recent challenges, and to shine a light on the heroes in our network who have made a difference. Nominate your organisations, your teammates, your mentors, or yourself HERE

We can help you with Kickstart!
In July 2020, the government committed up to £2.1bn for Great Britain, to fund the direct creation of 300,000 high quality 'Kickstart' jobs for 16-24 year olds. Since then, MtW has been working closely with the Department for Work and Pensions to support the design and implementation of the new scheme. Check out our new Kickstart page HERE, where you'll also find our new Employers’ Kickstart Guide. The guide not only contains everything you need to know about the scheme itself but also provides advice on the best possible way to engage with it in order to ensure both your organisation and the young people you are supporting reap the utmost benefit.
