Welcome to our November newsletter!

Welcome to the OTR November supporters' newsletter! Well, we had a very busy October here at OTR Bristol - here are some of the highlights:

Our Project Zazi lead our support for Black History Month, was featured on BBC Children in Need and launched the Black Bristol history timeline (we really encourage you to check out this amazing new resource!)

We spent the entire week in advance of the World Mental Health Day 2020 (10th October) encouraging access to mental health support and facilitating open conversations about mental health in general.

Our Freedom Project manager, Henry Poultney, was featured on the Pink List 2020 - the list of top LGBTQ+ influencers in our city!

We have also received a kind mention in the Bristol Mayor's Annual State of the City Address 2020.

All of this work is possible thanks to your continuous support so thank you!

Our #OTR55 Birthday Appeal

This month we are marking a big OTR Bristol Birthday - we are 55 this year! We have been delivering free, confidential mental health support to young people in the area for well over half a decade now. We are very proud of all the work we have accomplished over the years, but all of that impact would not be possible without you.

So this November we are launching an #OTR55 Birthday appeal. Here is how you can get involved:
  • Please donate today!
  • Please spread the word about the appeal!
  • If you have accessed our services over the years, please share your story using #OTR55 hashtag!
Thank you!

Our thanks go to...

This month we would like to say a huge thank you to Zachary Kohler for raising the fantastic £1,269 for us completing the Brecon Beacon Mountain Marathon. We remain amazed by the dedication, resilience and creativity of our supporters this year, so thank you ever so much to Zach, all his friends and family. A true inspiration!

Thank you for your continuous support and for helping us help young people's mental health.

Stay safe. Stay well. Stay connected.

This month we want to share with your the new project by our OTR Zazi team: Black Bristol Timeline. Here is the goal of this new platform brought to you by our young people:

"There is a reason we put together this project. The education system as it stands does not do enough to show young black people the history of the city they live in and how this city has been shaped by black people across time and space. We view historical education as a mental health intervention because when you know yourself, you know your strength. By stripping Black history away from the curriculum, you strip away an opportunity for a young person to form their identity. We want you to know that your history leaves clues, it leaves lessons and it leaves examples of how excellent black truly is. It provides you with an example of how excellent you are."
