Youth Lead Forum in Lansing on Thursday

“We Are the Change” forum is sponsored by Michigan’s Children, Peckham Youth Services, the Institute for Educational Leadership, and the Capitol Area College Access Network, and features eight young people between the ages of 16 and 24 with a range of experiences with disabilities and the justice system. Some have had court-involvement and are working through Peckham’s Right Turn Program in Lansing and Flint, and others are students with disabilities from Lansing-area schools.

The event will be streamed on Facebook Live. To watch the event, rsvp here and then click the "join event icon" or click here.

Kalamazoo Youth Take Center Stage

Each year, Michigan's Children partners with area organizations and other advocates within our network to organize and host youth-led candidate forums, allowing direct engagement with the very same people who seek to represent them in various ways as elected officials. This year, we kicked off engagement in Kalamazoo, where youth asked candidates questions on a host of issues including but not limited to education, criminal and juvenile justice, and even housing.

The following media outlets covered the virtual candidate event. Take a look at some of the coverage here.

Capitol Corner

Earlier this month, Governor Whitmer signed the FY 21 budget that has implications for many of the policies and programs we work alongside in our advocacy networks. In our latest edition of Capitol Corner, Michigan's Children President and CEO, Matt Gillard, shares his analysis on what's included in the state's budget and recaps some of the significant recent work Michigan's Children is doing to engage many youth and adult advocates alike during this year's electoral process.

Take a look at Matt Gillard's video Capitol Corner here.

Keep MI Kids Tobacco Free

In order to protect the health of kids across our state against the harmful effects of consuming tobacco and vapor products, our network partners have asked us to join in supporting a permanent rulemaking, allowing Governor Whitmer to ban the sale of all flavored tobacco products to minors.

Things You Can Do:
1. Sign the petition here.
2. Write a letter and send it to MDHHS-AdminRules@michigan.gov
