Life's Real Treasures

Fibber McGee and Molly

Way before television, a popular radio show, Fibber McGee and Molly, ran 1,611 episodes on NBC, from 1935–1959. Those were the days!

None of the show's other running gags was as memorable or enduring as the hall closet...The gag involved McGee's frequently opening a cacophonous closet, with the bric-a-brac it contained clattering down and out and, often enough, over McGee's or Molly's heads. "I gotta get that closet cleaned out one of these days" was the usual McGee observation once the racket subsided. Naturally, "one of these days" almost never arrived. A good thing, too: in one famous instance, when a burglar tied up McGee, McGee informed him cannily that the family's silver was "right through that door, bud... just yank it open, bud!" Naturally, the burglar took the bait and naturally, he was buried in the inevitable avalanche, long enough for the police to apprehend him...

Like many such trademarks, the clattering closet began as a one-time stunt, but "the closet" was developed carefully, not being overused (it rarely appeared in more than two consecutive installments, though it never disappeared for the same length, either, at the height of its identification, and it rarely collapsed at exactly the same time from show to show), and it became the best-known running sound gag in American radio's classic period. Jack Benny's basement vault alarm ran a distant second..."Fibber McGee's closet" entered the American vernacular as a catchphrase synonymous with household clutter.

Trash Pick Up in Silicon Valley

Each year the cities here in the San Francisco Bay Area each holds a cleanup weekend when free Trash pickup is provided at the curb. Great piles of debris quickly clog the street reducing street parking. Almost immediately scavengers ply the neighbor, many with trucks, because one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Nearly new furniture, appliances, camping gear, clothing, beds and lawn chairs are everywhere. There is simply no room in the house for all our acquisitions over the past year. Much more than the contents of to hall closet is thrown out. It’s a field day for lower income groups because new stuff is regularly thrown out including last years’ TV or computer.

No one is overly concerned apparently as huge land hills are everywhere. Whole new housing tracts have been built over land-filled mountains of garbage.

The Debris Fields of LifeLink: The Debris Fields of Life

Drilling down into what the Bible says about our possessions (and concerning us) — is very revealing because most of us horde, acquire, collect and build a great legacy of stuff we can’t take with us when we die!  We are suppose to lay up our treasures in heaven sending our keepsakes and memorabilia on ahead (assuming we know Jesus Christ personally). Otherwise everything—including us—may go down in God’s great cosmic disposal—which is everlasting destruction. See: http://www.ldolphin.org/hell.html
Today, on our crowded planet 150,000 people will die.
See: https://www.worldometers.info/.

Where will they all go? Human beings are mostly software not hardware. See: http://ldolphin.org/software.html so bodies and externals are not the most important part of man. Yet God IS Love, and He desires that no one should be lost. Here is where our Creator speaks to us from Outside of time and space with an integrated message system.
You are greatly Loved!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.“
(2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

Here are a few additional, relevant words from the Landlord about how then we should live:
Treasures on Earth

Jesus: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
(Matthew 6:19-21)

A Caution for would-be Entrepreneurs

“Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth."

"You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.  You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you. Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.“
(James 5:1-8)

True Treasure is in Earthen Vessels

“...it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed-- always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you.
(2 Corinthians 4:7-12)

Notes from Lawrence Hoppis

Dear Friends, just a keep alive note to let you know that both Lambert and I are alive and doing very well in this season of challenge and grace and hope that you are too. Let us know, and Lambert and I always love it when you drop a personal note letting him know how you are doing.

My personal news is that the Lord has moved our family to Washington State although I am still traveling between the pacific north-west and California each month and continue to be an active part of life at Pomeroy Palace. We both hope you are reaching into and experiencing the rewards of knowing Jesus and finding His strength and peace in the midst of trying times which is to be His special providence to all who "love Him and are called according to His purposes." (Romans 8:28)

Does anyone live in Washington we could be in touch with? Does anyone have any holistic health needs or concerns I can help out with? It would be a joy to hear from you and how your life and times are being affected during COVID-19. Hoping you are continuing to "prosper in all things, and in your health, just as your soul prospers?" (3 John 1:2) How may we pray for you, encourage you and reach out to your needs in this most compelling day?

Lambert Writes: I answer almost all of my email personally. I am neither an organization nor a “ministry.” Anything I write is free. I want to avoid being known as just another “peddler.”
