General & Special Election Results in
Two Runoffs

Unofficial results for 11/3/2020 Missouri City, Texas General and Special Election: Incumbent Mayor Yolanda Ford and former Councilmember Robin J. Elackatt will vie for the office of mayor in a runoff election, as neither candidate garnered 50 percent of the vote. Incumbent Mayor Pro Tem and At-Large Position #2 Councilmember Chris Preston and challenger Lynn Clouser will also compete in a runoff. Incumbent At-Large Position #1 Councilmember Vashaundra Edwards maintained her seat with 50.96 percent of the vote. Residents also passed the proposition providing for adoption of the firefighters' and police officers' civil service system. The City wants your input for its watershed study. Missouri City is updating its Watershed Master Plan to aid in flood-risk planning, preparedness and emergency response. Citizen and stakeholder feedback are key to the Watershed Master Plan update, and all input will be shared with the consultant. To learn more about the project, click here.

Fort Bend Supplies More CARES Act Funding

The City Council has approved an additional $2 million in funding from Fort Bend County for the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Fund Assistance programs. The Rental, Mortgage & Utility Program assists residents with paying their lease/mortgage and utility bills. The Small Business Assistance Grant program provides grants to eligible owners to assist with their business lease or mortgage payments. Both programs are still accepting applications. More than 200 residents participated in the socially distant event on Halloween. From the comfort of their vehicles, residents were able to securely dispose of their personal, confidential documents and donate non-perishable goods for distribution to local families in need.

As the fall months arrive, flu season accompanies them. This flu season will pose a bigger challenge due to COVID-19. The State of Texas has seen approximately 926,000 COVID-19 cases, including more than 10,834 cases in Missouri City. 

It is important to remember that we remain in a global pandemic, which shows no signs of going away this calendar year. We all have made sacrifices over the past eight months, and it’s crucial that we continue to put others first. Keeping the most vulnerable in our community safe by socially distancing and practicing healthy habits – such as washing your hands and staying home when ill – continues to be a main priority. The City’s facial covering order is still in place in through Nov. 30. First Responders to Host Annual MCTX Stuff the Squad Car & Fire Truck

The holidays are around the corner, and this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many local families need assistance. Missouri City residents can help by donating non-perishable food items and canned goods at the 12th Annual “Stuff the Squad Car and Fire Truck” event on Saturday, Nov. 21st. For more details.

Residents are advised to stay prepared until the end of the season and to also include COVID-19 essentials like masks, hand sanitizer, prescription medications, wipes and first aid items in their regular supply kits.
