Festival Special 2020

Hello Bristol Public Engagement Network and welcome to our special festival issue. In the month of November we have two festival of public engagement and we'd love for you to join us at some of the events!

Thinking Futures 2020 (6-15 November) is the University's festival to share and celebrate research in the social sciences.

This year's festival will explore the unique ways in which social sciences help us think about and imagine our collective futures, in collaboration with communities and organisations across the city.

This year's programme comprises a wide variety of events - from debates and discussions to workshops - for the general public, young people, community groups, policy-makers and third sector organisations.

Thinking Futures is part of the Festival of Social Science 2020 which was made possible thanks to funding from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), which is part of UK Research and Innovation.

FUTURES2020 (27-28 November) is a unique public engagement collaboration between the University of Bath, Bath Spa University, University of Bristol, University of Exeter and University of Plymouth to engage a wide range of people from the South West of England with research and innovation, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage.

This year we are offering a fascinating programme of virtual and real life events. With storytelling, talks, quizzes and comedy all exploring the worlds of science, culture and research, there is something for everyone at FUTURES 2020. Some events are ticketed, some are drop in and all are completely FREE.

As part of European Researchers’ Night, FUTURES2020 is part of a Europe-wide event dedicated to explaining research through fun and interactive learning. More than 300 cities across 30 European countries will be taking part in the event on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November 2020.

FUTURES2020 is funded by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions

We are also organizing a special event on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and its relationship to public engagement. Whilst the terms we use may differ, we’d like to open up a space where we can discuss the principles behind effective engagement with research and how RRI in practice could help.
