You can make route and logbook entries in the Mariner GPS Dashboard app.

Mariner GPS Dashboard

One of the great things about sailboat navigation now is that we have so many choices of low-cost apps. There are new features, apps and updates coming out all the time. Tactical methods that used to be impenetrable and make your eyes glaze over, are now democratized. You can use mobile apps on sailboats of any age and size. Functions that used to require an on-board tactician are now easy to use with just a couple taps. Your phone/tablet can even talk to you when something happens.

The SailTimer Wind Instrument is not like an appliance that you bought in previous years that never changes. The wireless, solar-powered Wind Instrument gets better over time, with new features and functionality. It works with lots of racing, cruising and wind gauge apps on Android and iOS. Whether you are enjoying spring in Oceania or beginning the off-season in the Northern Hemisphere, this is a good time to keep up on the newest apps for your needs.

The Mariner GPS Dashboard is a free app on Android that can now display wireless transmissions from the SailTimer Wind Instrument. It takes yet another completely unique approach to its display.

The Mariner app has a clean, simplified aesthetic and is part of the RAMS series for Road Air and Marine Speedometers from Watch & Navy. They originally began as two separate brands for smartwatch and mobile apps.

Automatically collect elapsed time, position and local weather at regular intervals. Add your own logbook entries to your route. Export trip data to .gpx and .csv files. View a compass display. Share your location. For a full overview of the features, see the Mariner app's web page.

Maybe best of all, the Mariner app lets you customize the speedometer scale for your boat, so you can use the entire range of the speedometer. That seems like a unique feature!

To connect to the Wind Instrument, just click “Wind” on the Dashboard View above.
