City:City Hall will be closed Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veteran's Day. Don't forget to catch the Veteran's Day Ceremony live on the City's YouTube channel or register to attend in person here. The ceremony is an outdoors, social distanced event with limited seating. Pre-registration is required.
It's officially starting to feel like the holiday season. Holiday lights around the City and in Dana Point Harbor turn on November 11th.
The Center for Natural Lands Management, the non-profit that oversees the Headlands Conservation areas, have opened its nature trail on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Expect a modified one-way path starting at the trail entrance accessed from Selva Road heading to the City’s Nature Interpretive Center.

County: Still firmly in red, Orange County continues to remain in the "substantial tier" while many of the surrounding counties remain in purple, or more restrictive "widespread tier". Read more about how the numbers are tracking in the Dana Point Times.
In a partnership with the County of Orange, UCI's antibody study found 11.5% of Orange County residents have COVID-19 antibodies. More than 3,000 participants were tested at drive-thru sites from July 10th through August 16th. The rate of 11.5%, was much higher than previous estimates of less than 2%. Among Latinos, the rates were as high as 17%, and 15% for lower-income residents. Read more about it here.

The County of Orange Health Care Agency has asked for our help in conducting a survey of attitudes toward vaccination for Covid-19, which will be of great assistance to them in planning for distribution of the vaccine when it becomes available. State: California Mayors are asking the State to reopen theme parks sooner. “We are concerned that the state’s guidelines would push re-opening of large theme parks up to a year out, which would have significant negative impacts on hundreds of thousands of jobs, thousands of small businesses, and billions in operating revenue for our cities,” said eight members of California's Big City Mayors Coalition ina letter to the Governor.
While professional sports and outdoor stadium guidance has been released, youth or adult recreational, amateur or semi-pro sporting competitions guidance has not.
COVID-19 has taken a great toll on the State’s tourism economy. California is experiencing huge loses as visitor spending is down 55%. According to Visit California, the State’s tourism authority, the impact is 9 times worse than after the 9/11 attacks. Business meetings and groups is an important segment of business for Dana Point’s local resorts and hotels. Every State but California has developed guidance to safely allow these activities with modifications and reduced capacities.
Governor Newsom has developed his own panel of experts to evaluate COVID-19 vaccines prior to distribution. The panel includes members from top California universities and medical providers, along with state and local public health officials.
