APS National Summit

From Laura Davidson, Sylvia's Sisters Vice President:

"The National Diaper Bank and the Alliance for Period Supplies held their virtual U. S. Conference on Poverty and Basic Needs October 21st through October 23rd. Jennifer, Jo Anne, and I were excited to attend several sessions.

Jennifer was a panel speaker in the breakout session Working with Distribution Partners and Community Agencies. Other topics covered included: Period Poverty Among School-Age Menstruators, Direct Distribution and Populations in Need, National Survey Findings, Demonstrating Impactful Period Supply Programs, Increasing Success with Corporate Sponsors and Partners, 8 Steps for Cultivating Relationships with Individual Donors, Implicit Racial Bias and Menstrual Equity Work, among others.

We are grateful to NDB and APS for giving us the opportunity to learn and grow."

Communities in Schools

In September and October, we donated a total of 3,363 period products to Broad Rock Elementary.

Carver College and Career Academy received 1,750 period products from us in September.

Local Food Banks

Sylvia's Sisters delivered 504 packages containing 8,856 pads to the Chesterfield Food Bank this September. That means 504 menstruators didn't need to worry about managing their periods that month!

In October, we donated 47 period kits to the Metropolitan Community Church of Richmond. MCC is a progressive, inclusive, LGBTQIA+ friendly Christian community that serves lunch and operates a food pantry every Thursday at their church hall in Richmond's Fan District.

Viva! RVA Food Drive

Sylvia's Sisters celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by teaming up with Feed More and LIVE to participate in the Viva! RVA Food Drive. Sylvia's Sisters President Jennifer Taylor delivered 6,240 period products to Diversity Richmond, which were distributed among 750 local Hispanic families.
