More Data Collections Added to the FRDR Discovery Service! (Portage, November 2)

Statement on Economic Impact of COVID-19 (OCUL, October 29)
"This statement, written on behalf of the Canadian regional and national academic library consortia, and the individual libraries they represent, describes the unprecedented challenges and uncertainty facing Canadian post-secondary institutions. U of Calgary Offers a New State-of-the-Art Home for a Massive Collection of Western Canadian History (L. Beaulne-Stuebing, University Affairs, October 26)
"Over the past two years, the HDL [High Density Library] has welcomed a huge number of new materials as part of a massive, complex relocation of Calgary’s Glenbow Library and Archives – documents and other items reflecting the history of Alberta and Western Canada – to U of Calgary." This "has doubled the university’s archival collection as well as the materials in its rare books and special collections holdings." Read more

DOAJ to Lead a Collaboration to Improve the Preservation of Open Access Journals (DOAJ, November 5)

Federal Trade Commission Closes its Review of ProQuest’s Acquisition of Innovative Interfaces (ProQuest, November 2)
ProQuest has "announced that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has closed its review of Ex Libris’ acquisition of Innovative. Innovative is now part of the ProQuest corporate family. Operationally, Innovative will run independently as a ProQuest entity and peer company to Ex Libris." Read more

First Draft of the UNESCO Recommendations on Open Science (UNESCO)
UNESCO has released a first draft of a Recommendation on Open Science to be adopted by Member States in 2021, which is meant to serve as “an international standard-setting instrument on Open Science.” This draft was informed by feedback received though the multistakeholder global and regional consultations, as well as direct contributions. A New Synthesis: Research Resources to Research Experiences (T. Hickerson, Charleston Library Conference)
This article proposes that “libraries should develop a new model for providing information resources and analytical tools for the use of scholars working in the current multidisciplinary research environment. This model, A New Synthesis, based on today’s research experience should replace the present concept of the ‘collection budget.’” Read more
