The CEnet Data Services Team

One of the central elements of the CEnet ONCE strategy is the Catholic Education Data Driven Decision-making (CeD3) data warehouse.

The Data Services Team within CEnet is responsible for the management, monitoring, and maintaining the CeD3 environment.

CeD3 is stored in a Microsoft SQL Data Warehouse. Incoming data from the CeSIS is processed via interfaces that enable the service to communicate with the data warehouse, where automated processes are then used to transform the data into a format that can be used within the warehouse. Other data such as NAPLAN, ACER, MySchools, and HSC is sourced externally.

Data housed within the Data Warehouse is designed to be consumed from within the web-based Reporting & Analytics portal (Yellowfin). The platform supports the ability for staff in CEnet member dioceses to explore data through interactive dashboards, charts and reports, all contained within a collaborative and easy to use, device agnostic interface.

The team is also involved in the Enterprise Data Access (EDA) project, which is working towards a centralised data access portal using MongoDB.

The Data Services team works internally, and with member dioceses, in providing reliable and readily-available data.

You can find more about CEnet's Data Services function in the CEnet Data Services Portal.

Member Collaboration - Compass/TechOne Collaborative sessions

Last week the CEnet CX team hosted the first in a series of CeSIS Collaborative session, ’Setting Up a New Academic Year for Ancestry Schools’, presented by Jacinta Keenan from the Archdiocese of Hobart.

Representatives from across the CEnet membership met to collaborate on best practices around creating a new academic year within an Ancestry portal.  The goal of these collaborative sessions is for all our participants to leave the meeting with new ideas about how they can strengthen their business processes within Compass/TechOne.
Member Collaboration - Setting up Ancestry
The next collaborative session on 11 November at 1pm will be presented by Emily Luchetti from Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong. Emily is presenting the centralised Accounts Payable process that Wollongong Diocese uses.

The series of workshops is being facilitated by CEnet, using the ONCE philosophy of reducing duplication of effort, to provide a forum for participants to share and benefit from the expertise and experiences of colleagues in other member dioceses.

Each week a different Diocese will present how they have tackled a school business process by using an aspect of Compass or TechOne.  Those attending the collaborative sessions are asked to come prepared with questions and to be ready to brainstorm and collaborate on how Compass or TechOne can improve their school business processes.

Schedule of events:
  • 11 November at 1.00pm AEDT - Centralised Accounts Payable process
  • 16 November at 1.00pm AEDT - Semester Report variations
  • TBA - Student billing processes
  • 2 December at 10.00am AEDT - Session for primary schools
  • TBA - End of year financial processes

Aggregated Procurement Activities

CEnet has an ongoing aggregate procurement process which is driven by the needs of member dioceses and aims to reduce costs associated with using a product or service by harnessing collective buying power.

Education Perfect
Due to interest from member dioceses in the Education Perfect service, CEnet has been in discussions with Education Perfect and a proposal from Education Perfect has now been distributed to member dioceses for consideration. As with all group procurement activities, member dioceses will have an opportunity to opt-in on behalf of interested schools and should there be sufficient interest, a group purchase will be coordinated.  As part of the offering a working group has been proposed to enable participating dioceses to share their experiences with the solution and to inform the Education Perfect Roadmap.

Kofax Accounts Payable Automation
At the request of member dioceses, a webinar on the use of Kofax Accounts Payable automation solution, which can integrate with the TechOne CeFMS solution has been arranged with Xcellerate IT.

The information webinar will be held by Zoom Video on Thursday 26 November at 11.am. Invitations have been distributed to personnel in CEnet member dioceses.
