Just in time for the beginning of holiday shopping, Rehoboth Beach’s Electric Fish has opened a pop-up shop in Tanger Outlets Seaside.

Partners and co-owners John Bonanno and Amy Stewart opened Electric Fish on Penny Lane in downtown Rehoboth Beach on Memorial Day of 2018. The store specializes in lamps constructed out of interlocking quadrilaterals made from recycled vinyl.

Bonanno said he thinks Electric Fish is the only store in the world that specializes in making the I.Q. lamps. There are other stores where a person can buy the supplies, but Electric Fish will actually make the lamps for people, he said.

Knowledge is important when fishing

I have been fishing the Indian River Inlet a lot more this year due to problems with my boat and a lack of fish in the surf. This has caused me to come in close contact with a number of fishermen that I would not see when I fish with my friends and family. I have discovered that many of these anglers lack some of the basic skills that all fishermen need to be successful. I would like to share some of these in case you or someone you know could benefit from this knowledge.

When I ran my fishing seminars, I always began each six-week course with one night of basic fishing knowledge. We started with tying three knots – the clinch, the double surgeon’s, and the perfection loop. Unless you were going to be a fly fisherman, those three knots would see you through 90 percent of the fishing situations you would encounter. We did not move on to another subject until everyone in the class could tie those three knots.

The next subject was tackle. Some of the junk I see people using at the inlet is a crime.

Mosaic mural becomes a reality

Volunteers began the final stage of the Lewes drawbridge mosaic mural project Nov. 4.

Two 25-foot-long sections of mural panels, with each panel measuring 5 feet long and 2 feet high, were screwed into the west side of the bridge. Then, under perfect weather conditions, volunteers worked to blend the panels together to hide the seams and screws.

Two more 25-foot sections will be placed on the east side of the bridge for a total of 100 feet.

Ferrying across the Chesapeake to get to the beach

Toni Gallegan: We use that ferry every summer on the way to North Carolina. I remember coming back one year with the carry all full of kids and 2 hunting dogs in the back and 2 ducks in a cage. Aaah the good old days.

Marty Faust: Many a voyage with the whole fam of 7. The Ferry was the best part of the trip from DC to 19971. Soon as you reached the East side the ultimate question popped. When will we get there? Or, I gotta pee! And all of this was pre-air conditioning. That new Bridge was a Godsend.
