Concepts for Android 2020.10

Our goal with Concepts for Android is to mesh it with iOS and Windows so you can enjoy Concepts cross-platform. This release is an important step on our way to shared file formats with iOS. It includes several high-demand features including automatic Google Drive backup, Vector PDF, upgraded vector pens, Wire tool and the Hard Mask.

1. Back up your drawings automatically to Google Drive. Tap the Settings icon in the gallery and set up your Google Drive account for backup. Concepts will save your drawings in its own “Concepts” folder. 

2. PDF now comes in vector format. Export your sketches as vector PDFs to other PDF editors like Adobe. Note that those other editors do not support Concepts' raster-like brushes or masks, they are limited to their own vector toolsets. When you import into an alternate editor, it will appear in a simplified vector format. For best line work, stick with Wire, Fixed Width and Slice tools when you draw. Strokes of varying width like the Fountain Pen will export as an outline.

3. Enjoy the CAD-like Wire tool for drawing and exporting to SVG file types.

4. We are upgrading our Pens to improved vector clarity. No longer should you see a jagged stamp-based edge when you draw or zoom - they will be smooth as ice. In order to use these updated tools in your drawings, please re-select them from the brush menu.

5. Hard Mask is now part of our disappearing act. The Hard Mask is a hard-edged masking tool, which means it doesn't actually erase, it hides your stroke. Like the Soft Mask, it acts in the current layer only, is independent of zoom, responds to line smoothing, and is a movable vector after-the-fact. (To indelibly trim or erase your strokes, use Slice.)

6. Try our brand new Crosshatching and Ink & Blot brush packs in the Brush Market. We were privileged to work with digital artist MiksKS to create these brushes - check out the artist's creative process in our interview.
