Dear friends,
The past few days have been stressful as we await the full election results and anticipate continued legal battles over the election. At the same time we can also identify reasons to celebrate, including the news that the 2020 election saw a record high turnout for Latino voters, up 300% from the 2016 election. With your support and engagement, Canal Alliance is proud to be part of a movement that is not only empowering Latino voters but also inspiring them to make their voices heard by showing up to the polls and engaging in the election process.
As we continue to await election results, we know that regardless of the outcome, there is much work ahead of us. Our partners at the Immigrant Legal Resource Center have compiled a report that details the most egregious policies that have been implemented in the last four years attacking immigrants and asylum seekers. This report seeks to help people really grasp the enormity of the destruction to our immigration system. We also hope it can help focus our collective efforts and energy as we look to the future and consider the changes that need to be made to ensure that immigrants are treated with dignity, respect, justice and fairness.

All of us on staff are encouraging one another to take care of ourselves, our families, our neighbors and our community during this challenging time. We hope that you will do the same.
We thank you for showing up with love, not fear; with hope, not despair. We need your optimism and active engagement now, more than ever.
In Solidarity, Omar Carrera Chief Executive Officer
Congratulations to our most recent Workforce Program graduates Together with our partners at College of Marin and Marin Builders Association, Canal Alliance was pleased to celebrate the graduation of 13 students from our 12-week construction certificate training course on October 15th. These students participated in the 5th cohort of our Workforce Development Program, and represent the second cohort to graduate during shelter in place. Although the celebration was virtual, we look forward to seeing our graduates’ very real success! These photos of students in the 5th cohort of our Workforce Development Program working and learning in the field were shared by Marin Builders Association at our virtual graduation ceremony.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers We are so grateful for our many volunteers, who came out on the four days of in-person voting to help educate Canal residents about the importance of this election, regardless of whether or not they were voting. When we make our democracy accessible and inclusive, Marin becomes a place where everyone can live, work, and succeed.
