How are you doing? I'm just tearing myself away from the drama that has been unfolding from the US elections (as I write nothing is decided...yet) to tell you two things. Firstly, to say that my new work, "Light, Console Me" is now out in full - so all three movements are awaiting your listening ears!
(For now this piece is just being released as a digital download - thanks to you guys who wrote to me about that - I would love to make it into something physical in the future).
"Light, Console Me" is made up of three songs - Departing, Awaiting and Mourning - and is written as a kind of Mourner's Kaddish for these strange times. It features the wonderful Gambian kora player Sefo Kanuteh (who I collaborated with remotely from Copenhagen to East Anglia) and the whole experience of writing the piece really helped me find the ground under my feet and make sense of events as they unfolded. I'm really proud of the work and I'd love you to hear it.
And secondly, that today is Bandcamp Friday.
For those of your who don't know, Bandcamp is *the* place online to discover and download amazing new music of all genres. As opposed to streaming sites like Spotify, Apple and online shops such as Amazon, buying from Bandcamp is really one of the best ways you can support your favourite artists to keep on creating. It's set up in such a way that every time you download music, a healthy share of the profit goes directly goes to the artist.
Even better, on Bandcamp Fridays (which they started doing specifically to support artists during the pandemic when our usual sources of income are severely limited) , they waive all their revenue share and 100% of your payment goes to the artists.
So - if you were thinking about downloading 'Light, Console Me' or indeed any other work from some other wonderful mujician - today is the day!
