Early Years Newsletter 06.11.2020
Welcome to the Early Years Newsletter.
Please enjoy reading about our events and what your child has been up to this week!
Over the October Half Term holidays, the children enjoyed unicorn biscuit decorating, building sensory paths and worm hotels outside and a word association hunt on the grounds for things that were soft, furry, bright, dark, hard, bumpy etc.!

The children were great at naming so many dinosaurs and wowwed the teachers with their knowledge on carnivores, omnivores and herbivores!
Thank you our brilliant PTA for putting on an unforgettable event on Monday for our Halloween Day! The children enjoyed the scary woodland trail, making playdoh monsters and creepy crawlies, eating the spooky broth at lunchtime and lots of fangtastic festivities in the classrooms. Everyone made a brillant effort and dressed up in their scariest costumes.

The fun didn't stop there! We held activities all week for the children who couldn't join us, including hammering into pumpkins and sharing our favourite stories!
What fantastic singing! Please enjoy our Early Years children singing and performing their poems in our Autumn Celebration
To support our families' local businesses through the Covid-19 pandemic, we are setting up a business directory on our website. When you need legal advice, new appliances, an estate agent or a recommendation for food and drink, our directory will share with you Ghyll Royd family businesses so we can all support each other. Our business directory is open to extended family of Ghyll Royd and also for promoting charities, organisations and groups, so please share!

To include your business listing, all we ask is for a donation of £100 per year, with the money going straight to our 'Theatre of Dreams'. To find out more, email Rebecca in the school office.

To find out more about our 'Theatre of Dreams', see our fundraising page.
Little Adventurers

Little Adventurers have had a brilliant first week back! The children had great fun in the woods looking at all the different pumpkins. We looked at the different colours and patterns as well as exploring the size and weight of them!

We have really enjoyed baking this week making scary buns and pumpkin biscuits!
Next week we will be providing colourful exploration activities after seeing fireworks last night and following the children’s other interests that they have shown us this week!

If you haven't already done so, please could you make sure you bring in a hat and gloves as the weather is getting colder!
Great Explorers

GE have had a wonderful week. We looked fabulous in our Halloween dressing up and we had a great time using our fine motor skills for pumpkin hammering, using some Science to make foaming bubbling potions and creating our own spooky spiders.

We found sticks and made them into magical wands on our Welly Walk and used them to change each other into frogs!
We even made spooky music in our Music lesson and learned a new song about Winnie the Witch.

We all enjoyed our melted marshmallows around the campfire on Thursday afternoon and have loved riding our new bikes and ride-ons on the school drive.

Next week we will begin learning about nocturnal animals - what is their habitat and what do they eat?

TB - please can you work with your child to discover one fact relating to a nocturnal animal - this can then be emailed to jenny.johnson@ghyllroydschool.co.uk
Reception

Reception class had loads of Halloween fun this week, doing spooky phonics, making spells and potions and carving pumpkin shapes.

They continued the Halloween fun for Welly Walk and made magic wands in the woods, filled a cauldron with natural objects to make a spell and played ‘bat, bat, witch’, chasing each other with a broomstick!
We have learnt about the Gunpowder Plot and made fireworks using colour and shape. Reception also had brilliant fun in phonics learning about the ‘j’ sound complete with real jelly where they had to dig deep and retrieve the hidden ‘j’ words. There was some jelly leftover to eat too! Yummy!
Parent Park and Ride

We will be offering a free Parent Park and Ride service for parents of our Pre-School and School. Leave your car here and be driven to and from Burley-in-Wharfedale train station to get to work on time! For more information, visit our website.
