SAN ANGELO, TX — Seeking to remain hot after two dominating wins in as many weeks, the San Angelo Central Bobcats took on the Odessa High Bronchos tonight, Oct. 30th, at San Angelo Stadium. The Bobcats, who are 2-0 in conference play, continued their winning ways in an overwhelming fashion. The ‘Cats’ defensive front proved to be way too much for the Bronchos, sacking the Odessa High quarterback more than five times. Central quarterback Malachi Brown and the rest of the offense continued to play at an impressive level, and the Bobcats put up 38 points on homecoming night to win, 38-7.

Hello <<First Name>>,
This afternoon, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed his nation declaring that the COVID-19 was getting so bad that he has no other choice but to mandate a new nationwide lockdown for a month. The need to do this is so urgent that Johnson said the mandatory part doesn’t begin until Thursday.
“From Thursday until the start of December you must stay at home, you may only leave home for specific reasons,” Johnson said in an address to the nation. The UK economy is dead. Put a fork into it.
Guess what? This is what a Biden/Harris administration will look like.
Meanwhile, in San Angelo, officials here are worried the COVID-19 infection rate and hospitalization rate will force a new round of closures. Details.
I have estimated that should COVID-related hospitalizations increase to a number of 88 per day we will see new restrictions. Currently we are at a little less than half that, 42. This comprises 7 percent of hospital capacity.

Prada Marfa celebrates 15 years of high fashion in the West Texas desert. "If you’re driving east from El Paso to Marfa on Texas Highway 90, amid a barren stretch of scrub grass and mesquite bushes, you will indeed pass by an incongruous building that, at first glance, looks a lot like a Prada store plopped in the middle of the desert. But if you pull over to take a closer look, the “store” will reveal itself as something more baffling. Inside, the stilettos and handbags on display are real Prada designs, but they seem oddly dated. The door is permanently locked, and the building is always uninhabited." More at KPRC Houston.
Special Olympics of West Texas trailer stolen. "A trailer purchased for use by the Special Olympics of West Texas has been reported stolen and owners are asking for the public’s help to find it. According to a post in the Operation Crime Watch Lubbock group, the trailer was last seen Sunday. Owners believe the trailer was taken Monday or Tuesday from offices at 305 Slaton Road." Air Force to conduct exercise in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas. "The U.S. Air Force says residents of parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas can expect to see and hear additional military flight activity in the coming week, including some at night. Officials said the 355th Wing will conduct an exercise that will include airplane and helicopter operations at locations between Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, on the west and the Army's Fort Bliss outside El Paso, Texas, on the east." More at Odessa American.
Texas AG joins lawsuit against El Paso county judge, who says only court can invalidate his order. "The Texas Attorney General's Office joined a lawsuit filed Friday against El Paso County over Judge Ricardo Samaniego's business closure order aimed at controlling the rapid spread of Covid-19 that has overwhelmed local hospitals. The lawsuit was brought by ten El Paso restaurants, many with common ownership. The list included such names as West Texas Chophouse, Peter Piper Pizza, Famous Dave's, Cafe Central, Toro Burger and Charcoaler. State Attorney General Ken Paxton, who had threatened his own legal action, joined the effort in a court filing where he alleged Samanigo's mandate wasn't valid because he had usurped powers that belong to the governor. (You can read the entire court brief at the bottom of this article.)" More at KVIA El Paso.
Virus resurgence sends oil prices to four-month low. "A grim week of news about COVID-19 sent markets -- including oil markets – tumbling. West Texas Intermediate on the New York Mercantile Exchange recorded its steepest monthly drop since March, weakened by a record surge in coronavirus infections in the U.S. that threaten to reverse oil demand recovery. WTI fell 1.1 percent to close at $35.79 per barrel Friday, down from $38.56 at Monday’s close. The posted price ended the week at $32.25 per barrel. West Texas Sour ended the week below $35 a barrel. Natural gas prices moved in the opposite direction, rising 5 cents Friday to close at $3.35 per Mcf. Prices got a boost when the near-month contract changed from November to December. The December contract closed its first day of trading Thursday at $3.30 per Mcf." More at Midland Reporter-Telegram.

At least 9.7 million Texans — 57% of registered voters — voted early. "During early voting in Texas, 9,709,376 people — 57.3% of registered voters — voted in person and by mail, surpassing the total number of votes cast in 2016. In 2016, 8,969,226 Texans cast a ballot in the general election. Texas has added 1.8 million registered voters since the 2016 election, and this year's overall percentage turnout is still below 2016's turnout of 59.4%." More at Texas Tribune.
Pollsters Warn of Flawed Election Day Predictions: ‘People Are Going to Be Shocked’ by ‘Shy,’ ‘Hidden’ Trump Voters. "“The models of who’s going to turn out this year are very flawed. What type of person comes out for Trump? They’re not a normal election participant. They’re a low-propensity voter. We included them in all of our surveys in fall 2016, and we are including them now,” he continued. ... Cahaly believes the magnitude of the “shy” Trump voter could be even greater this year due to the heightened tensions across the board, particularly against Trump supporters. “In 2016, the worst being said about Trump voters is that they were ‘deplorable.’ 2020 is a whole different ballgame,” Cahaly said. “It is worse this time—significantly worse.”“This year had more things where you can get punished for expressing an opinion outside the mainstream than almost any year I can think of in modern history,” he continued, adding that he is finding that people are “very hesitant [to share their preference for Trump], because now it’s not just being called ‘deplorable.'”" More at Breitbart.
Covid-19 Is Worse in the Dakotas Now Than It Was in the Spring’s Hot Spots. "The percentage of tests for Covid-19 coming back positive in South Dakota has soared to 46%. That’s more than eight times the World Health Organization’s recommended 5% threshold for businesses to be open. As Covid cases surge across the U.S. and in Europe, South Dakota and North Dakota hold a distinct position: Each has more new virus cases per capita than any other states have seen since the pandemic began. South Dakota has the most and North Dakota the second-most. “Those who don’t want to wear a mask shouldn’t be shamed into wearing one,” wrote South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, in an opinion piece published in the Rapid City Journal last week. Hospital visits and caring for symptomatic people are times when masks are appropriate, she wrote. Maggie Seidel, a senior adviser to Ms. Noem, said in an interview that the governor has no opinion on whether people should wear masks while in close proximity to others in public locations. Ms. Seidel said the governor’s response is a measured one to a virus that she said will spread with or without governmental restrictions. ... Allison Suttle, chief medical officer for Sanford Health, a hospital system that covers both North and South Dakota, said she is concerned about the rising case numbers and wants to see more mask-wearing. “Unfortunately, the virus and its effects have become quite politicized,” Dr. Suttle said. Covid cases make up about 18% of patients in the system’s hospitals, Ms. Suttle said, and space is tight overall, in part because many people deferred care for other health issues during the spring and summer. She said she expects Covid-related patients to rise, given the usual lag time between new cases and hospitalizations. The hospital system has the ability to move patients among its hospitals and add capacity if needed, she said." More at WSJ.
Joe Rogan’s Podcast Sparks Tensions Inside Spotify. "The deal to bring Mr. Rogan to Spotify is already showing signs of success. His millions of loyal fans have made “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast Spotify’s No. 1 show since arriving on the platform in September, “outperforming our audience expectations,” the company said when reporting its earnings Thursday. The company’s stock has run up more than 50% since the deal was announced in May. Mr. Rogan’s show, which also tops Apple Podcast charts and other rankings, has troubled some company employees, who in a town-hall meeting in September expressed concern over material they felt was anti-transgender, according to people familiar with the matter. Recent appearances on the show from two guests—first Abigail Shrier, an author critical of transgender issues; then Alex Jones, a radio host and the publisher of InfoWars, whose content has been removed from Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify—have sparked outrage from listeners inside and outside the company who have posted on social media to express their disagreement. ... Some employees flagged this week’s “Joe Rogan Experience” featuring Mr. Jones to company moderators, highlighting his comments stating that masks don’t help stop the transmission of the new coronavirus and that the polio vaccine caused people to become sick. Spotify determined the podcast fit within its guidelines." More at WSJ.
Houston energy exec charged with bilking investors out of $1.2 million in oil and gas deals. "A Houston energy exec has been charged in an elaborate scheme to defraud 21 investors out of $1.2 million in oil and gas transactions, according to U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick. A federal grand jury returned a 12-count indictment against Arael Doolittle, 55 who heads Sariel Petroleum LLC and Sariel Enterprises LLC. According to Law 360, Doolittle operated a company that used bogus letters, phony email addresses and a bank account under the name of a Chevron-affiliated company in order to dupe companies into doing business with him."
