Undergraduate Education at Duke

Gary Bennett was appointed vice provost for undergraduate education in 2018. As vice provost, he drives Duke’s undergraduate education strategy and leads curricular and co-curricular programs. He directs Duke’s Office of Undergraduate Education, which includes eight offices and programs (including academic advising, academic support, nationally competitive scholarships, merit scholar programs, financial aid, study abroad, as well as vibrant co-curricular programs such as DukeEngage and Duke Immerse) that enrich Duke’s undergraduate academic experience.

How what happens in Beijing impacts how and what we learn about Chinese politics

Dr. Manion's research focuses on contemporary authoritarianism, with empirical work on bureaucracy, corruption, information, and representation in China. Her newest research investigates the political selection of “winners” in China’s ongoing anticorruption campaign. Melanie is also an excellent teacher. Don't miss on this interesting topic and professor!

Race in the Age of President Donald Trump

Dean Smith used to teach some of Duke's most popular courses, including “Race, Power and Identity: From Ali to Kaepernick” and “Education 101: The Foundations of American Education.” Now as Dean, he is responsible for the curricular and instructional programs, including the Academic Deans, the Thompson Writing Program, the Office of Continuing Studies, the Office of Undergraduate Research Support, and the Office of Assessment for Trinity College.
