If you normally go to the races during the spring carnival, or celebrate out with your friends, keep in mind that this year is very different. Remember:

  • outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people are permitted outdoors, the sun's going to be shining so this should be an easy one
  • you can have up to two people visit you at home
  • be sure to wear a face mask and practise physical distancing to keep yourself and your friends and loved ones safe
  • remember to wash your hands regularly, coughing and sneezing into your elbow, and keeping at least 1.5 metres from others
  • if your have any symptoms, get tested and stay home while you wait on your results
Some tips for enjoying the big day include:
  • of course tuning in for the 'race that stops the nation' at 3.00pm on WIN
  • host a virtual event and dress up for the occasion
  • the sun is shining, it's a great day for a picnic at the back. You can tune into the big race via radio. Remember your masks and some sunscreen
  • for the kids, try a 'Feedbag Race': Use pillow slips or hessian bags to have a traditional sack race, but call it a ‘Feedbag Race’ in keeping with the theme

Calling on the Valley's youth to share their experiences

By the Latrobe Health Advocate

In the coming weeks the Latrobe Health Advocate, Jane Anderson is wanting to hear from young people aged 12-25 about what is important to them.

COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of many young people and their families and friends and she’d like to hear from them about their experience, any suggestions they might have about how to improve things and how the Advocate and others can best hear their voice.

To share your experiences with the Advocate, get in touch with Kylie on 1800 319 255 or email info@lhadvocate.vic.gov.au and she’ll make a time for you to catch up.  During COVID-19 this can be done in a range of ways that suit you.  You can chat over the phone or by video.  Where COVID-19 safe practices are in place you can catch up at a café or a local park for a face-to face chat.  Jane is happy to come to you at a time and place that suits you both.

You can also go to the website lhadvocate.vic.gov.au/whats-important-to-you/ and leave a message for Jane.  While you’re there we encourage you to complete the Engage Vic survey. Just click on the link and you’ll be taken directly to the survey page.

By Beyond Blue

"I used to have this mindset that no matter how upset or sad I was, that things could always be worse. But by thinking this way, I actually wasn't taking into account how I was truly feeling".

Setbacks aren’t a new thing for Western Bulldogs footballer Lin Jong; he’s had his fair share over a nine-year career in the AFL system. One of the more significant challenges has been his experience of depression.

After taking time away from football to focus on his mental health, Lin sat down with Beyond Blue to reflect on what he's learned in that time
