Keeping Cornwall safe through lockdown

Today we begin a second lockdown.

The new restrictions in are being put in place to help control the spread of the virus. Cases of COVID are currently lower in Cornwall than in other parts of the country, but we all need to stay vigilant to protect our loved ones and the NHS.

As with the early part of 2020 we can only keep our communities safe by working together. It is a difficult time and many people will be struggling, so look out for each other.

Changes to shielding

Unlike in the spring those considered to be especially vulnerable to coronavirus are not being asked by the government to shield this time around. You can find more information here.

The Government is set to write to all those who previously shielded this week to offer the latest advice.

We are working with our partners in the voluntary sector to support our most vulnerable residents in accessing food and essential supplies. Supermarkets are continuing to provide priority delivery slots to vulnerable individuals. If you need help getting online, for example to register for an online supermarket account, please contact Volunteer Cornwall.

There’s an information page on Cornwall Council’s website specifically for clinically vulnerable residents who are in the shielded group.

Anyone who needs help can request a volunteer by ringing Volunteer Cornwall on 01872 266988 or emailing requestforhelp@volunteercornwall.org.uk.

Could you volunteer for Cornwall?

Could you help and support communities and people across Cornwall?

Earlier in the year many of you stepped up to the plate to help those who needed support, we hope that many of you will do the same again as we work through a second lockdown.

Community volunteers can register with Volunteer Cornwall on their website or by emailing mid@volunteercornwall.org.uk. Volunteer Cornwall will match people who ring up needing help with the community volunteers in their local area – or, if they have more complex needs, with specialist services.
