COMET 2020 Webinar series

Tuesday 3rd November

14.00 - 15.00 GMT

Steven MacLennan, University of Aberdeen

"Vicarious thinking" was a key driver of score change in Delphi surveys for COS development and is facilitated by feedback of results

Many COS use Delphi surveys as a method of encouraging consensus, which is thought to be facilitated through enabling participants to review anonymous scores of other participants. This talk summarises the results of a study investigating the reasons for score change in Delphi surveys using between-round score change data from 3 Delphis used in COS development (anal, gastric and prostate cancers).

Marie Österberg and Christel Hellberg,

The quality and usability of developed Core Outcome Sets (COS)

Mainly based on a systematic review of finished and ongoing core outcome sets relating to pregnancy and childbirth we will highlight and discuss some insights:
  • Should there be a limitation in the number of outcomes in a COS?
  • How important is it to determine how and when to measure the outcomes in the COS?
  • How can we critically appraise developed COS?
