Battle for FloridaInspiring Black Voters Is Key to Biden’s Prospects in Florida (New York Times)

Democrats have lavished attention on South Florida, with Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Kamala Harris repeatedly visiting in the final weeks.

Democratic groups, including those funded by Mike Bloomberg, have raced to pour more money into get-out-the-vote efforts in Florida’s Black precincts.

Bloomberg’s political arm has started airing footage from President Obama’s recent rally in a new television ad aimed at the region’s voters. “Miami, I’m asking you to remember what this country can be,” Obama says in the footage.

Warning to Democrats: Florida Has 432,000 Outstanding Democratic Ballots (Florida Politics)

Josh Mendelsohn and Michael Halle at Hawkfish say Biden could win the state by 120,000 votes. But on Saturday, they warned that Biden has 432,000 outstanding ballots that have not been returned.

“If those ballots do not end up coming back in, and people do not vote them on Election Day, it would produce a Trump win of roughly 300,000 votes,” Halle estimated.

Minorities are more likely to vote on Election Day, the analysts said, fueled in part by higher levels of mistrust in elections among communities of color.

“Folks just have not gotten to the polls yet, which is the reason why these last few days are going to be critical,” said Adrianne Shropshire, executive director of BlackPAC. “I think we are going to see a lot of Black voters show up on Election Day.”

“If Biden wins Florida, it’s a lights-out scenario, because it would force Trump to start winning states Hillary Clinton won in 2016,” Halle said.

Pennsylvania — the state many believe is most likely to decide the election — also has early voting options, and there is a significant uptick in turnout.

Still, half a million mail-in ballots remain outstanding in the state. Pennsylvania officials won’t start counting the more than 3 million mail-in ballots until Election Day — and some counties will not start until Wednesday.

“There’s a very strategic reason the President is messaging that, hey, whatever that count is on November 3rd is what needs to be what decides the election, because they know they have a problem if all these vote-by-mail ballots that are correctly postmarked get counted,” Mendelsohn said.

Inspiring Black Men to Vote.

Filmmaker Teams With Bloomberg For Campaign Featuring Prominent Black Men (Deadline)

'Black and Blue' director Deon Taylor rallied prominent Black men in media and beyond (as well as some allies) to help mobilize communities to get out and vote.

Taylor teamed with Mike Bloomberg for the “This Is Why I Vote” campaign, which features Michael Ealy, Mike Colter, Tyrese Gibson, Van Jones, E-40, Tyrin Turner, Joseph Sikora and many others as they speak out against the injustice that the current administration has brought upon marginalized voices — specifically the Black community — in the past four years.

Says Jones (below left) in the video, “If a racist attacks me, I want a president who is on my side and not on the side of the racists."

The 'Red Mirage' Is Coming.

Donald Trump has told associates that he intends to declare victory early if the results show him ahead, even if the outcome isn’t really known, Axios reported Sunday.

Joe Biden already warned Sunday that he wouldn’t let Donald Trump declare victory in Tuesday’s election before the results are clear.

If Trump is to declare prematurely, it would be echoed on the conservative TV network Fox News and by powerful Republicans across the U.S.

By the time final returns show that in fact Joe Biden has won the presidency, perhaps days later, the true election result has been dragged into a maelstrom of disinformation and chaos.

Tips for Staying CalmRemaining Sane Election Night — and Beyond

  • Vote and then chill until late Tuesday night. There'll be dumb rumors, wild speculation and armchair projections, all of it meaningless.
  • Don't expect a quick, clear winner. We can't stress enough the chance of it taking days to fully count mail-in and absentee votes, to determine the real outcome in places like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
  • Don’t share social-media posts that aren't from a source you trust and know well. Period. Too many people share too much garbage too often.
  • Don’t overreact. You might see images on cable or social media of protests, or what seem like massive voter intimidation or issues. This can often seem bigger or more widespread than it is.

Election Night Viewing Guide.

News You Can UseWhen To Expect Election Results In Every State (FiveThirtyEight)

Florida will likely offer near-complete results a matter of hours after polls close.

Arizona and North Carolina will release the vast majority of their ballots very quickly, although if the race is too close to call they may not provide a final answer for days.

Georgia and Texas should tally most ballots on Nov. 3, but counting may stretch into Wednesday or Thursday.

We should know the winner in Wisconsin by Wednesday morning.

Michigan and Pennsylvania, by contrast, will probably take until the end of the week.

Harrison Ford and Mike Talk Climate Change.

Harrison Ford joined Mike Bloomberg on a Zoom call to talk about the urgency to address climate change and why both of them support Joe Biden for president.

"We want to encourage people to support candidates that will support the environment," said Ford.

Added Bloomberg: "We both agree we need a partner in Washington to really get this done. That's why we both support Joe Biden."

"He's respected on both sides of the aisle, he has character and decency and empathy," Bloomberg continued. "The current president is making terrible decisions that will be with us for a very long time. I don't think there's ever been an election as important as this one."

Ford said: "That's it in a nutshell, Mike."
