November 2020

Dear friends and supporters,

It's been a long time! We apologize for the lapse in our updates. We've been working on getting one out since May/June! We have run into so many technical difficulties. First, our last update wouldn't go through and kept getting stuck in our inbox. Then, it became an outdated letter, so we had to rewrite it. Then we decided to try a new method (Mailchimp) for sending out our updates, and it took a long time to add each of our subscribers and create a new email template. And, to top it off, we have had the poorest internet connection recently, making everything that much more difficult. All this to say, we haven't intentionally cut contact with all of you! And in the midst of it all, we have enjoyed trying to stay connected with many of you via our Facebook page. We'd love it if you headed there to "like" our page, so you can keep up with the little details of our daily life.

We moved out of Seth's parents' house into an apartment in Sassandra in the final week of June. Seth was gone so often to oversee the work on the house that it was starting to wear on all of us, and frequently making such a rough drive was wearing on the car, so we decided it would be better to move to Sassandra, so we could all be together while Seth worked on our house. Long story short, God provided us with a small, three-room apartment across the street from our house.

In the first week of October, we moved into our house! It is not done yet-- not by any means! But it was ready enough to move into. We have had slow, but steady, progress since then and are chipping away at some of the problem areas on the bottom floor, such as some leaky spots in the roof, a kitchen that holds too much humidity, and too few functioning outlets. Things are getting fixed little by little, and we hope to have the downstairs finished soon so that we can start chipping away at the work to be done upstairs.

Seth's parents returned to the States for their furlough at the end of September. Since then, Seth has kept busy acting as their furlough replacement missionary! He has been leading the church, as well as the elementary school, in San Pedro in his parents' absence. He plans to visit the church in person to conduct services twice a month, with Paige and the girls accompanying him once a month.

Right: Seth leading a small discipleship class with newly saved men.

In order to keep this update as brief as possible, I'll bump through a few ministry highlights before closing.

  • Since we last sent out an update, Seth has seen at least a dozen people make professions of faith!
  • A few of these new converts meet with him once a week for a discipleship study. Several of these men have shown that they are very serious about learning to live for Jesus, and it is an encouragement to see them growing.
  • Seth has found a true friend in a man named Stephane, who also recently received Christ. Stephane is on fire for the Lord and is learning and growing quickly. He has been an invaluable asset to us as well, teaching Seth things about the culture here that Seth was unfamiliar with and using his important connections with key people to help as we start our ministry and manage Seth's parents' ministry.
  • I have been blessed to find a friend in Stephane's wife, Florence. She doesn't speak English but is more than happy to help me with my French! I have been able to cook African food with her two times now and had so much fun. She also asked me to be one of her bridesmaids in her upcoming formal wedding ceremony/celebration!

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for us! We are blessed by your support and encouragement. May God bless each of you in these uncertain days in the States!

Happy in His service,
Seth, Paige, Eden, and Zion Cuthbertson
