Young people are doing wonderful and important things in our community. YICU is appealing to the community in this instance not just for financial contributions, but rather for your important attendance at the Virtual Event to support these young people and reinforce their efforts.
The organization’s YICU service awards celebrate young leaders who positively impact individuals and communities through their leadership and volunteer service to neighborhoods, schools, and social service agencies.
“Most of these nominees operate largely ‘under the radar’ doing good deeds, sharing their time, talent and treasure quietly and selflessly. These young leaders have assisted several nonprofits, touched numerous lives and volunteered countless hours to improve quality of life in our community. Please join us in recognizing and celebrating all the YICU nominees.” said Carolyn Hansen, who serves on the YICU steering committee.
In addition to recognizing all nominees, nine winners across three age categories will be selected by a panel of community service leaders. There will also be one additional winner from any of the three age groups or from a separate team category. A community nonprofit and an adult mentor who empowers youth in our community will also be recognized during the event.
It’s not just the nominees who will be celebrated at the event. FBT is excited to make a $250 donation to each of the award winners’ chosen non-profits.
This year's nominees include students across Unit 5, District 87, University High School, Illinois State University, Rhodes College and Heartland Community College. To view the complete list of individual and team nominees, visit - https://forbettertomorrow.org/2020-yicu-awards/
Patrice O’Neill will serve as the keynote speaker. She is a filmmaker and CEO of the Oakland-based non-profit strategic media company, The Working Group and leader of Not In Our Town, a movement of people across the country working to build safe, inclusive communities for all. Her film Not In Our Town, began as a half-hour PBS special and turned into a dynamic movement that thrives in communities across the U.S. and around the world.
