Message from the Mayor, Cllr Alexander Curtis

Just prior to lockdown I was delighted to visit the new Ware Recycling Centre which has just reopened.  What a vast improvement! The facilities available are state-of-the-art.  There is so much more space inside and the parking spaces have practically quadrupled, which should prevent dangerous build up of traffic at the entrance.  One of the most impressive features of the new site is the Reuse Centre, where good quality preloved items are on sale at bargain prices.

I have also recently, along with Mayor of Hertford Cllr Bob Deering, met with our local group of Street Pastors to hear about the amazing work they undertake in our towns.  Street pastors are trained volunteers who care about their local community and can be found on patrol on Friday and Saturday nights, caring for, listening to and helping people who are out on the streets.  You will read more of their work further on in this newsletter.

As you will see later in this newsletter, the planned Remembrance Day Services will now not take place.  We are asking everyone to pay tribute from home on Sunday 8th November by placing their poppy in their window and by joining the 2 minutes silence at 11am on Armistice Day, 11th November.

We have now entered into this second period of lockdown which will be challenging for many.  Please be assured that your Town Council continues to work for you and if there is anything you would like to bring to my attention please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Cllr Alexander Curtis
Town Mayor

Ware Recycling Centre Reopens!

The new Ware Recycling super site has reopened.  The centre is open 10am-6pm everyday,  (closed Thursday and Friday) except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

All household waste from your home can be taken there, except for asbestos.  There is a limit on DIY waste.  If you are bringing your waste in a van or in a car with a trailer, you will need a permit, which you can apply for online.  If you want information on a specific item of waste, you can check the A-Z of what is accepted.  You will find both links here https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/services/recycling-waste-and-environment/recycling-and-waste/recycling-and-waste.aspx.

The new site is four times larger, easier to use and includes a new reuse centre where you can pick up a preloved bargain!

NB:  The site will remain open during the lockdown period but for essential visits only.  The Reuse Centre will not be open. For details see here:

Ware Skate Park

Sadly, the week before last our Skate Park was vandalised overnight and we had no option but to close it.  Our grounds team have been working hard to put it right and we are pleased to say that the Skate Park has now reopened.

There are plans for a major refurbishment of the Skate Park and it is hoped this work will begin in the New Year.

Remembrance Sunday 8th November

Unfortunately, due to the new lockdown regulations now if force, we are unable to go ahead the the planned Remembrance Services across four of our Churches in the Town.   A special Remembrance Service has been put together for broadcast - the link will be posted on www.waretowncouncil.gov.uk, Twitter and Facebook when it is available.

Please place your poppy in your window on Sunday and pay tribute from home.

Armistice Day Thursday November 11th

There will be no gathering at the War Memorial at 11am on November 11th.  Instead we are asking everyone to pay tribute from wherever you are, at work, at home, at school with a two minute silence across the town.

The bells at St. Mary The Virgin Church will toll to mark the start of the two minute silence.

Heroes of Hertfordshire ~ Street Pastors Hertford & Ware

Hertford and Ware Street Pastors are humbled and blessed to have been awarded Heroes of Hertfordshire for supporting vulnerable people in our community. The volunteer programme is supported by both the High Sheriff and Lord Lieutenant of the county.  The Mayor of Hertford and Ware respectively presented David Elder, the representative of the street pastors with the well-deserved certificate in a socially distanced presentation at Hertford Castle.

The Street Pastors are part of a national team first pioneered in 2003, and they continue to grow throughout the UK and across the world. Hertford and Ware started their first patrol on the 2nd October 2009.  Street pastors are trained volunteers from local churches that care about our community.

David Elder said
'Hertford and Ware Street Pastors are honoured to have been presented with the Heroes of Hertfordfordshire award by the majors of Hertford and Ware. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve our community; by helping and caring for vulnerable people on the streets of our towns during the night-time hours.'

Alexander Curtis, the Mayor of Ware said:
“It is fantastic to see the Hertford and Ware Street Pastors recognised in this way.  They do a brilliant job on the streets of both towns to look after those who are out on Friday and Saturday evenings.  They are a credit to our local community and provide a star example of the fantastic voluntary work being done in our local area.”

Bob Deering, the Mayor of Hertford said:
“This is a richly deserved award in recognition of the fantastic work done by the Hertford and Ware Street Pastors. Particularly in Hertford where we have a vibrant night time economy, the Pastors undertake extremely valuable work in a totally selfless and modest way. We are very lucky to have them and they deserve our full support and gratitude.”

Further information on the service and about volunteering can be found on their website, https://streetpastors.org/locations/hertford-ware/
