November 8th: "National Aboriginal Veterans Day began in Winnipeg in 1994 when Indigenous veterans were not recognized in Remembrance Day activities, and is now celebrated in many communities across Canada. Over 12,000 Indigenous people are estimated to have volunteered in all three wars, including 7,000 First Nations members, and approximately 300 died during these conflicts." November 11th: This year will look a little different for those of us who remember our loved ones who fought, fighting and serving. This year we thought it would be important to highlight the legions who serve them.

Honouring and remembering Canada’s Veterans

The Legion acknowledges the end of conflicts and does not commemorate the start of conflicts. The most sacred day of Remembrance is Remembrance Day. Every year, on November 11, the Legion recognizes all of Canada’s Veterans, serving and retired, and commemorates our Fallen, including the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, Peace Officers, Merchant Navy, and Reserves. On that day, we also honour the families and their losses." learn more about how you can recognize them here: https://www.legion.ca/remembrance/importance-of-remembrance

Do you have a photo of your loved one who served or serves? We would love to share them on our page on the 11th - please send them to katie@gatewayassociation.ca at your earliest convenience.
