Greetings Peoples Church Family,

As we prepare for election day tomorrow we are reminded to anchor our hope in Jesus Christ our Lord. We are citizens of the kingdom of God and yet we are citizens of this nation. We have a spiritual, moral, and ethical imperative to be involved in the affairs of our community, cities, and nation. We encourage you to vote if you have not done so already. We affirm that voting is an act of justice and a means of embodying our faith in the world.

We also believe in the power of prayer and we want to encourage you to pray for our nation and our city as we enter election day. There are a variety of ways to engage in prayer this evening and tomorrow and we hope you will join us for one of these prayer services.

Prayers for Election Day

For an Election:

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representative; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Book of Common Prayer, p. 822

For Social Justice:

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, and especially the hearts of the people of this land, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Book of Common Prayer, p. 823

For Those Who Influence Public Opinion:

Almighty God, you proclaim your truth in every age by many voices: Direct, in our time, we pray, those who speak where many listen and write what many read; that they may do their part in making the heart of this people wise, its mind sound, and its will righteous; to the honor of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Book of Common Prayer, p. 827
