UFV researchers in the field – and the news

UFV's South Asian Studies Institute (SASI) has begun working on six research projects as part of their $1.14 million South Asian Canadian Legacy Project (SACLP). Working in partnership with the Abbotsford Community Foundation, SASI aims to showcase the historical role, contributions, and resilience of South Asian Canadians within British Columbia. They will do so by creating access to new educational materials, digital collections, online resources, and exhibits (not unlike their "Haq and History" exhibit pictured above)! Visit SASI's SACLP website and "meet the team" page to learn more >>

Funds available for students to attend virtual conferences, conduct EDI research
One of the highlights of our job is awarding travel grants for students to present their research at conferences across Canada, throughout the U.S., and internationally. Unfortunately, since the coronavirus pandemic has led to restrictions on non-essential travel and caused most in-person events to be cancelled, we have not been able to award as many presentation grants in 2020 as we have in the past.
We have decided to re-adjust how we utilize student presentation funds to provide NEW support and opportunities for UFV student researchers:
Students may now apply for a student presentation grant to cover the entry fee of online conferences. (Side note: Please email regs@ufv.ca whenever you attend or present at a conference, virtual or not. We love to hear from students.)
We are re-allocating $15,000 from the student presentation grant fund to support student-led research and engagement projects related to Indigenization, anti-racism, and other EDI topics. Details to be announced soon!
