FEDC and The Future of Florida Forum

FEDC played a lead role in the Florida Chamber’s Future of Florida Forum held on October 20-22. FEDC Chair, Marc Hoenstine, introduced Florida Secretary of Commerce and Enterprise Florida President & CEO, Jamal Sowell to discuss industry diversification strategies and the future of Florida’s business growth and expansion. Secretary Sowell acknowledged and thanked FEDC for its role in reengaging on the importance of the Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund program for growing Florida’s economic diversification.

Additionally, as an exhibitor at the Future of Florida Forum, FEDC highlighted its support of the Florida 2030 Blueprint to secure Florida’s future. In a recorded video, FEDC members, Rose Fagler of Weyerhaeuser and Doug Wheeler of the Florida Ports Council described the “strategic doing” action planning process their task force has used over the last year to advance the goals of the Florida 2030 Blueprint:

·      Top state for GDP; Top quartile for the most diversified state economy
·      Doubling the rural share of Florida’s GDP
·      Inclusion of Florida 2030 goals (all 39) in regional economic development strategies

The task force is focused on developing metrics and measurements of progress to advance these goals. We’re using the Florida 2030 blueprint as our compass and using the Florida Scorecard as our measurement. For more information about the Florida 2030 Blueprint or to get involved with this task force, please contact Jill Blackman.

FEDC Virtual Engagement Series:  M-CORES - Planning for our State's Future

We are delighted to promote the next virtual engagement in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, featuring keynote speaker Secretary Kevin J. Thibault. During the 2019 Legislative Session, a forward-looking piece of legislation created the Multi-use Corridors of Regional Economic Significance, otherwise known as the M-CORES, program.

The M-CORES program's intent is to address how future multi-use/multi-modal corridors could enhance the state's infrastructure and help meet the needs of our growing population, revitalize rural communities, encourage job creation, and enhance regional connectivity while protecting and preserving Florida's natural and historic resources.
