The Lacombe Historical Society is honoured to host the first of an ongoing annual Field of Remembrance in 2020.
The Field of Remembrance will be officially opened on Thursday 5th November outside of the Michener House Museum at 5036-51 Street, Lacombe and will be accessible to the public from Friday 6th November until Sunday 15th November. The Field is scheduled to be open from 9am to 5pm, with guests encouraged to visit in the evenings and on weekends at their leisure.
"To commemorate their sacrifices, this annual Field of Remembrance has been
established by the Lacombe & District Historical Society. This field of 100 White Crosses is to act as a visual memorial for those from Lacombe who died during the First World War; the Second World War; the Korean War & the Afghanistan War.
We invite the community to join us as we honour and remember those who lost their lives while serving in our Armed Forces. Visitors will be able to experience rows of white crosses representing the soldiers from Lacombe who lost their lives." ~ Melissa Blunden, Executive Director, LDHS.
Special thanks to Wolf Creek Building Supplies Lacombe for donating materials to make this memorial event possible and to the Lacombe Legion, Branch #79.
We are also pleased to be a location this year to support the Royal Canadian Legion with the Poppy Campaign & commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War - make sure to come on by the office located in the Michener House Museum to get your poppy!
