Dear readers,
November is looking to be another busy month for Andover Trees, with lots to get involved in. From Tree Planting Fortnight to fundraising, we need your help!
Please continue reading to find out more, and as always, we hope you stay safe and well x
The ATU team.

Tree Planting 2020

What's happening?
Tree Planting Fortnight and volunteer workdays will go ahead as they are not currently restricted from the government COVID guidelines. Numbers will be limited.
  • We still have 1000 trees to get in the ground, including 25 'mature' trees that will form a new arboretum area in the wood. 1 mature British native tree will be dedicated to each participating school, and the arboretum will commemorate lives lost and lives changed by the pandemic.
  • We still have school groups booked in to plant trees in the woods during planting fortnight ( 16th - 27th Nov).
  • We have several failed trees from previous years that need to be replaced and a new hedgerow that needs to be planted
  • We do not have the usual ~1000 children to plant their trees this year - so now we need YOU.
How can you help?
  • Volunteer to help run School's Tree Planting Fortnight (Mon-Fri between Nov 16th - 27th)
  • Plant trees during our Saturday workdays (starting Nov 14th, see poster below)
  • Plant trees during our Monday workdays (every Monday 10am - 1pm)
  • If you have a child attending a local school, bring them up to the woods on a weekend workday so that they do not miss this important opportunity to add their own tree to the woods (please let us know which school you can represent).
To sign up, please email volunteers@andovertrees.org.uk.

Our site is Covid secure and working to government guidelines and the safety of our volunteers is of the utmost importance to us. We have plenty of space to ensure you do not socially mix with anyone outside your 'bubble' at all times, and you will not be in close contact with school children or other volunteers.
No experience of tree planting is needed, all will be explained and participation is FREE.

We look forward to working with you! :)
An open call for tree planting helpers

Fundraising for the Woodland Classroom

We are very excited to say that spring and summer 2021 will finally see the construction of the new woodland classroom and community space in Harmony Woods!
The construction will involve the Carpenter's Fellowship, we are honoured to have been selected as their 2021 charitable project. This means the cabin frame will be crafted from tree trunks (by hand!) and raised (by hand!) by this team of very skilled crafters and carpenters - and we, the local community, will be able to get involved with the process.

However, we still need to raise the remainder of the funds to complete the build.
Here are the ways in which you can help us achieve this goal:
  • Purchase some of the wonderful green craft products that our volunteer team have been busy creating over the past few months. Including willow bird feeders, ash twig pencils, lavender bags, personalised wooden discs and willow wreaths (see photo below). We are happy to arrange collection points for you to pick up your products. - Please email volunteers@andovertrees.org.uk to make a purchase.

  • Attend our upcoming quiz night and/or enter the raffle! - 21st November, time tbc, via Zoom. £5 entry per person, free for under 16s. Raffle numbers are £1 per strip.
Teams of 6 will be formed (but don't worry, you can book for as many or as little places as you like). All money will be paid via BACS - please email volunteers@andovertrees.org.uk to book your place.

  • Support ATU Youth Team member Dmitrijs Meiksan's fundraiser 'Walk Walk Walk' - he's walking 10 laps of Harmony Woods every day for 2 weeks, starting on Nov 2nd, and totalling an amazing 175km! You can watch the story unfold on his Instagram account here.
  • Select ATU as your charitable organisation on Amazon Smile - and donate to ATU every time you shop through smile.amazon.co.uk.

  • Make a cash donation via Global Giving when the new 'cabin' project page goes live in December. Donations can be enhanced by Gift Aid - and on Dec 1st, Giving Tuesday 2020, donations will also receive match-funding.

THANK YOU for your support.

Co-op Community Fund

We have a new environmental arts-based project called ‘Voices Unveiled’, an element of which, 'Andover's Ash' will be supported by the 2020/21 Co-op Community Fund.

How the Fund Works

Co-op Members can select to support our project between now and 23 October 2021.

You can join the Co-op membership online at coop.co.uk/membership or by downloading the Co-op app. Where you will be asked to select your local cause.

Thank you!

About the Andover's Ash project

'Andover’s Ash’ builds on ‘One Ash’ and ‘Ash Tree Stream’ and will connect the Andover community to the Ash trees and chalk streams from which the town takes its name.

Timber from one Ash will be used by many; stories and accounts of contact with local Ash Trees will be mapped, documented and shared; locally collected songs and folklore will tell tales of living by the stream, further referencing the origins of the town’s name

Contributing to Voices Unveiled, which culminates in a festival in 2022, we will celebrate the final tree planting of, and all work created during, the 10-year ‘Harmony Woods’ project. Every aspect of creativity will be documented and shared in exhibitions and performances in the town.

Donate to 'Harmony Woods' project via Global Giving
Thank you for your support.

Covid-19

In order to adhere to the government’s guidelines, we would like to make you aware that:

  • Volunteer workdays; our monthly Saturday and weekly Monday workdays will resume through a sign-up-in-advance system.
    • Those of you that may walk through Harmony Woods as your daily exercise are welcome to carry out an individual task if you wish to. If you are interested in this idea, please contact us for more information.
    • We also ask for help in monitoring the site’s condition. If you notice anything untoward in Harmony Woods, we would really appreciate it if you could let us know. Thank you.
  • Our schools project work will be resuming this month, and there are still additional resources online for those of you that would like to do some activities at home or outdoors.

We are still working behind the scenes on strategic planning, writing funding bids, project prep and all sorts of admin tasks. If you would like to volunteer in any of these areas we would love to hear from you - please get in touch. We can still be reached via our website and online via our social media pages.

We hope you all stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. x
