CLC in Metro New York Newsletter
Hi Dear CLC Friends!

We join with the US Catholic Bishops in congratulating President-elect Joseph Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory in the 2020 US presidential election!    Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote: "We thank God for the blessings of liberty. The American people have spoken in this election. Now is the time for our leaders to come together in a spirit of national unity and to commit themselves to dialogue and compromise for the common good.  As Catholics and Americans, our priorities and mission are clear. We are here to follow Jesus Christ, to bear witness to His love in our lives, and to build His Kingdom on earth. I believe that at this moment in American history, Catholics have a special duty to be peacemakers, to promote fraternity and mutual trust, and to pray for a renewed spirit of true patriotism in our country."

We are enthusiastic about our upcoming Advent Day of Prayer with Jesuit Provincial Fr. Joseph O'Keefe.  See details below.

Advent Day of Prayer
"Hope"
December 6th at 9am - 12:30pm

We are delighted that Fr. Joseph O'Keefe S.J., the Provincial of the newly-formed Jesuit USA East Province, will be our keynote speaker.

Fr. O'Keefe will share his reflection on the topic of Hope in the midst of times of uncertainty, pandemic and division.
There will be prayer, time for personal reflection, and breakout sessions for small group sharing on the topic of Hope.

For Sunday Liturgy, we will join the St. Francis Xavier Sunday Mass Zoom room at 11:30 am.

We encourage you to register so we have an idea of numbers.  We also are asking for a small donation of $10 per person to offset our expenses and provide for future events like this!

Post-Election Prayer

O God of Healing,
We are called to wholeness,
We are called to community,
We are called to restore and renew.

To the darkness of division,
We choose to respond with light,
To the despair of violence,
We choose to respond with peace,
Trusting in Your light and Your peace
To open a way forward.

O God of Healing,
Help us listen and learn,
Present to the sorrows we all bear.
Help us reflect on your teaching
As we seek new beginnings.
Help us to act with the realization
We are all your children,
We are sisters and brothers,
Connected with sacred bonds.

God of Healing,
Hear our prayer for wholeness,
For community,
for restorative peace,
And for the renewal of our nation.
In Christ’s name, hear our prayer. Amen

Jane Deren, Ph.D.
