President’s Message

Hi Everyone

We are very excited to have a couple of Toyota Reps bringing a new Toyota Prado and a Rav 4 for us to see this Friday for our Toyota PB club round!
Athletes, be ready to do a big Toyota jump at the beginning of the meet!!
The Guys will be handing out certificates to our athletes for participating in this round.

WALKS AND HURDLES
Track hurdles (for older age groups) are on opposite weeks to short hurdles.
For those children who want to do track hurdles or walks, please go straight over to Shane, on the track, instead of with the warm up group.  This way, the walks can get started early and we can try to clear the track for when everyone comes over for the running events.
This week is track hurdles.
PLEASE SEE THE PICTURE BELOW ON THE CORRECT WAY TO SET UP HURDLES. THEY MUST BE ABLE TO COLLAPSE FORWARD. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR ATHLETES IF THEY ARE SET UP BACKWARDS.

EVENT ORDER
Please try to go in the order of events on your App.  There has been a bit of bottle necking at the high jump and long jump. The programmes are designed to try to alleviate this problem as much as possible.

LONG JUMP
Can all athletes up to U10 please use the two lanes closest to South Terrace for long jump as the mat is set up there for you.
The older athletes use the spray painted lines on the other two lanes.

I have made two new log ins:

A message from SALAA:

"Nominations are NOW OPEN!  Please let me know if there are any issues with trying to nominate 😊

As there is a set program for this meet, it would be greatly appreciated if you are able to ensure members nominate for ALL events for their age group. I have set up the system so only the designated events per age group will appear for members. This will be helpful for inputting results."

When you register, it shows up as $10 per event. Ignore this.  When you get to the payment page it will be only $10.30

SA Power Networks State Relay Championships is the next State event!
See information  below. There have been some changes this year.
Mums and Dad's of registered athletes can also enter a team!

The PB Classic - an explanation for new families
You have probably seen emails from Little Athletics SA about the first PB Classic event on Sunday 22 November.  It would be great to see a strong Harriers presence at this meet. PB of course stands for kids striving for their Personal Best, which is also the basis of our own Little Athletics meets. A PB Classic is held towards the start and the end of each season at the SA Athletics Stadium at Mile End. The PB Classic is open to all Little Athletics members, and is a great chance for kids to work on their PB at the state's premier athletics facility alongside athletes from other clubs.

The nomination cost is $11.20 per athlete regardless of whether they do one or the maximum of five events. A draft program is available and although it may change, is still well worth consulting before deciding which events your athlete/s should sign up for, because it can be a long day if the weather is warm (if it's really warm, there are also hot weather times on the program).  Don't be put off by schedule clashes, as the officials are generally very accommodating if your child for example has both shot put and 100m at the same time - typically prioritise the running, but let them know about it at the slower event so they expect you back after the race. There is a usually a canteen open at the stadium to keep you fed and caffeinated, and often clubs set up marquees and stake out a particular area for the day.

State officials in blue shirts oversee the events and sometimes have good bits of advice for the athletes as well, particularly as they are more stringent on technique and fouls than we parents are at weekly meets!  However, Little Athletics relies on volunteers, so all clubs also need to provide adult volunteers to help run the events, usually one volunteer per family.  You don't need any skills or experience, and you don't need to worry about this when nominating, but we will ask you to sign up later once we know which events we need to provide volunteers for. (A good tip then is to get your volunteer registration in early so you have your pick of event times/durations!)

Looking forward to seeing you there!
