REMINDER
Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill 2020

Webinar| November 9th,7pm
 
Join Galway Environmental Network on Monday, November 9th at 7pm for a discussion on the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020.

The discussions on the evening will be moderated by the GEN Co-chairs, Caroline Stanley and Niall Ó Brolchán and joined by:
  • Hildegarde Naughton, TD, Minister for International Transport & Logistics
  • Senator Alice-Mary Higgins
  • Sadhbh O'Neill, Friends of the Irish Environment
Speakers will give an overview on the Climate Bill 2020 identifying strengths, weaknesses and the actions needed to ensure that this is a Bill of substance.

Accessibility of Public Transport Survey

The National Transport Authority (NTA) have created a survey on Accessibility on Public Transport and are asking you to help to provide feedback on how accessible you find the public transport system in your own area.
Help the NTA hear people’s views and concerns filling the survey out online or by emailing or posting it before Thursday, December 3, 2020.


Submissions:
There are three ways you can complete the survey:
• You can fill in the survey online (using the link https://bit.ly/2HZiD6J )
• You can type in your answers to the Word document or editable PDF and email it to accessibility@nationaltransport.ie
• You can print out the survey and return it by post to: Transport Accessibility Manager, Dún Scéine, Iveagh Court, Harcourt Lane, Dublin 2, D02 WT20.


Assistance:
If you would like someone to assist you over the phone to complete the survey, you can ring 01 879 8300 and request a call from Accessibility. Oterwise you could email your contact details to accessibility@nationaltransport.ie and they can arrange this for you.

TRIBES Youth Arts Festival

Have you found your TRIBE? 
Inaugural TRIBES Youth Arts Festival online
All digital, all free!
7 + 8 November 2020


TRIBES is a Youth Arts Festival, aiming to connect young people in Galway, through creativity. Have you always wanted to try a dance class or acting but were too embarrassed to go, or couldn’t find anyone else to go with? Are you interested in how to create a community through business? Do you want to see a film made by young people that won the biggest art prize in France?
 
From 11am on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November, TRIBES will have a range of free online activities for young people to participate in. Specifically programmed with young people in mind, the overall programme focuses on movement, trying out new things and the connection between mental and physical health. 


Timetable:  
Saturday 7th November Sunday 8th November 
  • 11am - 12pm Yoga with Fionnuala Doyle-Wade
  • 11am Morning Workout with Trainstation Galway
  • 1pm - 2.30pm Dance with Leonie McDonagh
  • 1.30pm - 2.30pm Galway Youth Musical Theatre workshop
  • 3pm - 4.30pm Art with Róisín Curé
  • 3.30pm - 5pm Theatre workshop with Órla McGovern
  • 7pm Livefeed
  • 6pm Un Film Dramatique by Éric Baudelaire and students from Seine-Saint-Denis, France.

Ageing Voices 

Singing Groups Are Critical to Communities

Sing Ireland, the national singing development agency and Creative Aging International, are developing Ageing Voices to encourage singing for health and well-being amongst adults, whether they live in the community or in care.
You are invited to attend four free lunchtime panel conversations online, from 1-2pm, Monday 9th to Thursday 12th November.
  • Monday 9th: “The Ageing Voice” as an instrument - Register here
  • Tuesday 10th: “Special Interest Choirs” friendly to and made with people living with conditions like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Register here
  • Wednesday 11th: “Community Connections”  where cultural leadership connect organisations in pursuit of community care Register here
  • Thursday 12th: “Singing For Care” shares examples of singing in healthcare settings Register here

The discussions will celebrate and explore topics like ageing, health, social care, wellbeing and its connection with group singing and are open for musicians, carers, health care teams working with older people, and everyone lucky to be ageing with a love of singing.

Each features accessible expertise made from practical experience. They showcase great examples of singing groups for ageing voices, care and well-being and highlight tools and training opportunities. 
 
Virtual Coffee Morning for Charity Trustees
November 16th, 8.30am

Join Carmichael's CEO, Diarmaid Ó Corrbuí, and Carmichael's Training Manager, Derek O’Reilly, on November 16th at 8.30am to share the experiences, challenges & benefits of being a Charity Trustee and discuss the events happening over Charity Trustees' Week.

Many charities and community groups have lost out on many opportunities to raise much needed funds in 2020, and are depending Christmas generosity to find money for activities and service in 2021.


If you are fundraising between now and the end of 2020, Galway Volunteer would like to help.  Please complete the survey here with the details of your fundraising activities.


Galway Volunteer will review this information with the aim of including it in a special section of their website and also share it on their social media channels, to get the information out as widely as possible.

The magazine aims to inspire others to keep the heart warm and hope alive during these difficult times.

As part of the ongoing work of the Galway City Community Response Forum, Galway City Community Network and Galway City Council have developed a map of the COVID-19 related responses, activities and services available to people in Galway City.

The map is publicly available and can be used as a useful information resource both for individuals made vulnerable by COVID-19 and by organisations or agencies that need to know where they may refer their clients to for support.
