Newsletter 6 | 4 November 2020

Beste lid van de NKWP/ Dear member of the NKWP:

Winnaars prijzen
De Els Witte prijs is gewonnen door David Bokhorst van de Universiteit van Amsterdam voor zijn proefschrift “Governing imbalances in the economic and monetary union: A political economy analysis of the macroeconomic imbalance procedure” en de Daniël Heinsius prijs voor de beste Master’s scriptie is gewonnen door Laura Van Megen van de Universiteit Leiden voor haar scriptie “China’s #Ricebunnies localizing #MeToo: Norm localization of anti-sexual harassment sentiment: a PRC case study”. Gefeliciteerd!

Amy Verdun
(voorzitter NKWP)

**** English version

Dear NKWP member:

The autumn is in full swing and regrettably we are now in the midst of the second wave of the coronavirus. The current academic year looks different than ever before. We hope you receive this newsletter in good health; both physically and mentally.

Politicologenetmaal 2020
In our previous newsletter we mentioned that we experimented with an online version of the Politicologenetmaal 2020. The decision to keep the Politicologenetmaal 2020 online was an ad hoc decision and workshop leaders decided on a case-by-case basis whether they wanted to make use of this opportunity. In the past month, the conference organizers and the boards of the NKWP and the Flemish colleagues have evaluated and made a decision: we now plan in advance that the next conference will take place virtually! The 24 hours will again be organized by Maurits Meijers and Andrej Zaslove of Radboud University Nijmegen and will take place on June 3-4, 2021. The call for workshops has just opened and we encourage everyone to submit a proposal themselves or encourage a colleague to do so https://politicologenetmaal.eu (deadline for panel proposals is January 15, 2021; the call for papers opens 1 February until March 31, 2021).

Winners prices
The Els Witte prize was won by David Bokhorst of the University of Amsterdam for his thesis “Governing imbalances in the economic and monetary union: A political economy analysis of the macroeconomic imbalance procedure ”and the Daniël Heinsius prize for the best Master's thesis was won by Laura Van Megen of Leiden University for her thesis “China's #Ricebunnies localizing #MeToo: Norm localization of anti-sexual harassment sentiment: a PRC case study ”. Congratulations! Please visit our website (http://politicologie.nl/?page_id=15) for more information about the prices.

General Meeting
Normally we hold our General Meeting of the NKWP at the Politicologenetmaal. That has obviously not happened this year. We have made arrangements to hold this meeting virtually on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 3:00 pm via Zoom. We want to encourage all members to attend the virtual General Meeting. The board asks whether members who wants to participate to register in advance by sending an email to the secretary (Walther Kok via waltherkok@hetnet.nl). The documents will be sent to the members by email at least 8 days in advance to those who have registered. Members who would wish to receive the documents but are unable to participate may also request them from the secretary.

Survey to the members
As stated in previous newsletters, we have prepared a short survey and are inviting our members to complete it. In this survey we ask questions about what members expect of the NKWP, whether we are doing our activities well and how the NKWP could improve. We also wish to identify areas in which the NKWP could play a more active role (for example, cooperation in political science educational programs in the Netherlands) and which challenges political scientists face. We will send the survey to the members by email.

If you have any other questions, comments or reactions, please let me know.

I hope you will all remain healthy, happy and safe.

Yours sincerely,

Amy Verdun
(Chair of the NKWP)
