Reorganizing At the Roundhouse
Saturday Nov. 7th
Last week volunteers and staff completed the power washing of the storage building. Last Saturday, volunteers got the building swept out, reassembled pallet racking, and moved all the oil containers to the back room.
Thru the summer, volunteers worked hard to reassemble wooden shelving in the one of the steel containers and get the others ready. These are the ones located in stalls 11-15 Now our focus needs to turn to getting materials that are outside into the containers and the storage building. Wiring is nearly complete, so we have light in the containers. Now we have ample space to store everything and need your help to get it all done.
Some new acquisition:
MRPS has acquired a steel shed for storing flammable and hazardous materials. Once a spot has been identified, we can move propane cylinders and other containers to a central location.
The along awaited donation of a brand new plasma burning machine has arrived. Many thanks to our friends and benefactors at Lincoln Electric. With a nearly 12 foot table, our challenge is to make space for he machine and create adequate working space around it. A possibility is using the area next to the conference room wall. This would require relocating the player piano, 4070 wheel set and possibly the sand blast cabinet. Creative ideas are certainly welcome.
4070
There are a good number of 4070 parts located in stall 5 which we have easier access to. Now is a good time to get those parts marked and moved into the warehouse. This may free up some of the pallet racks and they can be moved to the storage building. There is also a lot of reorganizing to do in that part of the stall.
Our staff members have been busy at Glenwillow the past several weeks, so all this work depends on volunteer help.
Operating crew:
Tours have been booked for 10:00AM and 1:00PM. Brakemen and tour guides are needed for those time slots.
With Covid infection rates increasing, please exercise all precautions. Masks, distancing and frequent hand washing go a long way in keeping volunteers and guests safe.
Admin help
The gift shop is still looking for a manager or any volunteer help. We still need to reconcile some transactions and verify inventory. The board has selected an accountant so there is professional help in that area. We are seeking to fill the accountants position, so if you know of anyone or a firm that could help, please contact the offfice or any board member.
Are you more inclined toward white collar work? Talk to the director or any board member about how you can get involved with convention planning, grant writing, business plan writing or community relations.
