Rural Connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean
A bridge to sustainable development during a pandemic
The report provides a complete overview of the status of rural connectivity in the LAC region and its impact on social, economic and productive life in the rural communities.
The research, coordinated by a multidisciplinary group in partnership with IICA, provides significant data on the urban-rural connectivity divide at a time when the spread of COVID-19 is worsening the problem of lack of internet service access in rural areas.
It also presents in detail the productive and economic impacts of this divide, and provides solutions, recommendations and evidence that can serve as inputs for public policies.
IICA, together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Microsoft, supported this research as promoting connectivity is an indispensable and priority condition for enabling the development of the totality of the productive, social and community life in rural areas.
