Get funded for your social project!

Now is your chance to change the world, one step at a time! Small Change, Better World provides seed grants for one-time, limited scope projects that address a specific need. Funded projects must require less than $3,000 and be achievable within a short period of time, such as a quarter or semester.

All kinds of social impact projects are welcome, although we are especially encouraging those addressing needs associated with COVID-19 and/or support communities of color.

"Thanks to SCBW, minority youth in Long Beach, California received free gardening education and cooking lessons from the nonprofit, Adventures to Dreams Enrichment (AtDE). SCBW funding provided youth with gardening supplies, cooking ingredients and equipment, and transportation, making it possible for AtDE to host their first summer culinary program."

-Vivianna Goh, Recipient (Spring 2019)
"The Small Change and Better World grant provided the Pittsburgh community resources that allowed for a multi-sector collaboration between UCI Ph.D. students, nonprofits, and local residents that aimed to raise awareness on the social impact [of freeway expansion]. The program resulted in a platform where people could establish meaningful relationships while also creating opportunities for a critical examination of the social implications of public governmental activities."

The Surprising Power of Seeking a
Daily Dose of Awe

What are the effects of awe on prosocial behavior and one's individual self?
Dr. Paul Piff from UC Irvine and Dr. Dacher Keltner from UC Berkeley conducted 5 studies with 2000+ participants focusing on how something "bigger than oneself" promotes awe and positive emotions.

"In the great balancing act of our social lives, between the gratification of self-interest and a concern for others, fleeting experiences of awe redefine the self in terms of the collective, and orient our actions toward the needs of those around us."
