The Deagon Ward has been a hive of activity over the past month with the community really kicking it into high gear as we approach the Christmas holidays. This has been a welcome return to community events for me and a great chance to get back out and about. The opportunity to attend the Brighton State School centenary celebration was undoubtedly a highlight especially when considering the local and state-wide attention it attracted.
The Governor Paul de Jersey AC and his wife attended the centenary in addition to our local member Stirling Hinchliffe, describing the appreciation our community has for the hard work this local school does on a daily basis. The leadership provided by Principal Mr Scott Padget and the P&C is nothing short of admirable and I am sure the young pupils have a great foundation to build upon moving forward.
We also had the opportunity to celebrate the eighth anniversary of the momentous Eventide Rally. An event that remains scored into local history as a truly grassroots effort to save a precious healthcare asset here on the Northside. Taking a moment to remember the united effort put in by so many among our community is absolutely worthwhile.
On that note, here within the Deagon Ward we can all appreciate the presence of so many outstanding local characters that fly under the radar. Now is the chance for them to be recognised publicly in the annual Deagon Legends Award. We all have a mate that we are particularly proud of and I encourage you to take five minutes to nominate them for this award.
