WDV speak as part of an online forum series on reproductive coercion
In August, WDV staff Zoe and Tess spoke as part of a two-part webinar series, Addressing reproductive coercion: Access and Equity III presented by Women's Health Victoria and Women's Health in the North. These webinars explored the issue of reproductive coercion and the intersection of sexual and reproductive health and violence against women.
Held on 27 August 2020, the second webinar focussed on the nuances of reproductive coercion as experienced by women with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and migrant and refugee women. There was consideration of reproductive coercion, a form of interpersonal/intimate partner violence and of structural or institutional violence.

Our Right to Safety Online Workshops
Over the past two months, WDV’s Regional Hubs in Geelong and Warrnambool and a local group in Outer Eastern Melbourne have hosted Our Right to Safety Workshops. This year, the workshops have been held online with the wonderful support of Hub Leaders and Yarra Ranges Council. Groups of women, who all have different experiences, have talked about what safety and respect means to them. We’ve shared ideas with each other about how to be safe. We’ve also talked about ways we can recover if we have experienced violence or abuse. More than 15 women who identify as having disability have participated, and we have had the support of the Centre Against Sexual Assault for each of our workshops. It has been great to share about places where women with disability can get help if they experience violence. It has been a big team effort to take the Our Right to Safety Workshops online. Deb Haygarth in Geelong and Lou Hollis in Warrnambool have done some amazing work.
As women with disability, together we have empowered each other to talk about this important topic even at the most challenging time. If you need help or support you can all 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or go to www.1800respect.org.au. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
