Hi All,
______

Happy International Volunteer Managers day!

What a year of change it's been, and so fittingly the theme of International Volunteer Managers Day is ‘what’s next’?
The Volunteering Victoria team got together to answer that question and you can see what we think here. While it seems hard to make any predictions these days, there are several truths about leaders of volunteers that I know that will guide us moving forward into 2021.

Leaders of volunteers seek out best practice and research »
Leaders of volunteers are always asking us about best practice and research to drive programs and advocacy in our sector. We are overwhelmed by the positive response to our recently released State of Volunteering Report. The fact that so many of you are already talking to your senior management and boards about it will see impactful results.

We are also thrilled to announce that our CPD program will now come with access to Engage (formerly e-volunteerism) to ensure sure that leaders of volunteers are connecting with international best practice. Read more below

Leaders of volunteers are innovative and resilient »
This year, during COVID, we have seen incredible examples of leaders of volunteers adapting programs and volunteer roles to respond to emerging needs and delivering vital services in a COVID safe way. We are looking forward to celebrating some of these amazing programs that have adapted at our State Awards on 26 November. Read more below

Leaders of volunteers are values driven »
So many conversations I’ve had this year have been focused on ensuring volunteer welfare, program participant welfare, and making sure that best practice is shared so smaller organisations are not left behind. It has been incredible to see our community of leaders of volunteers rally together to support one another.

So in celebrating this IVM day, I encourage you to think about what’s next for your professional and personal development into 2021, but make sure you take some time to also reflect on how far we’ve come.

Happy celebrating!

Read about the program on our website. Applications will open in early December. If you have any questions get in touch with us at info@volunteeringvictoria.org.au

Still unsure – hear about what mentoring pair Jimmy and Hayley have to say about this year’s program.

"I’ve participated twice now as a Mentor with the Volunteering Victoria Mentoring Program and it continues to be the most rewarding, inspiring and humbling experience – certainly a highlight of my year. I have had the privilege of mentoring some talented individuals who are highly committed to their volunteers, and this has allowed me to grow and develop as a leader and mentor.

The most meaningful part for me is connecting with my mentee on areas beyond the workplace, as we support each other on the challenges of work and life, and I feel blessed for the opportunity to form friendships well after the program.

To those thinking of joining the program, you will be supported by Sara and the Volunteering Victoria team with opportunities for professional development sessions and webinars, and I highly recommend participating in the program as a profound learning and memorable experience that will benefit any volunteer engagement leader." - Jimmy
"I joined the volunteering sector two years ago and knew from the start how much I would benefit from a mentoring program. I was privileged to join Volunteering Victoria’s mentoring program in 2020 and was matched with the most amazing mentor. It has certainly been different not having yet met my mentor in person (with COVID-19) but we have made it a successful partnership with meeting every fortnight over FaceTime. I have learnt and grown so much with Jimmy as my mentor.

I highly recommend the program to anyone who is thinking of applying" - Hayley
