SPOTLIGHTS

IMPORTANT DATES

Spring Registration Begins 
Spring registration has started.  All Graduate students should register NOW.  If you have questions on your plan, please contact us.  

Department Consent/Permission and Holds
When you register-- if you see a requirement for Department consent or if you have a hold CONTACT MARISOL!.   Do not institute an online permit request. 

Know Your Catalog!!
Before you register for classes make sure you know what catalog you are under-- quarter or semester.  The requirements are DIFFERENT!   You can choose which catalog you want to follow but must register that preference with the University.  If you have ANY questions about your catalog requirements- contact our office.

Pi Alpha Alpha Induction 
PAA is the National Honor Society for Public Administration. Graduate and Undergraduate students who have achieved a high gpa in the public administration courses may be inducted.  See more information on our website.

November Professional Development Seminar
The November meeting of PA 6985 Professional Development Seminar will be from 6-7 pm Wednesday evening November 25th. We will talk to faculty, provide some interview tips and update you on the faculty search for the new Department Chair.  

No PA Winter Intercession Classes
Winter intercession runs over the holiday break from mid-December to mid-January. For this year PA will not be holding any classes.  This may change in future years.


Spring Comprehensive Exam 

For those of  you planning to take the Comprehensive exam in the Spring.  The themes that have are listed on the Comp Exam webpage will be the same for the Spring Exam - but the actual questions will be different.

CSUSB Designated National Center for Cybersecurity Education
CSUSB has just been recognized by the U.S. National Security Agency for its outstanding work in cybersecurity education.  The story is HERE and the video is HERE.   If you are interested in cybersecurity as an MPA Concentration check out our Concentration page, which has resources to help you know if this is the right concentration for you.

OPPORTUNITIES

Student Research Challenge
The Leonard Transportation Center at CSUSB, directed by our own Dr. Kimberly Collins, seeks students interested in paid research positions on the topic of "How to Improve the IE's Transit System Using Big Data and Policy Solutions."  Find out more on their flyer and on the LTC Website.  The deadline is not until April 21, so you have time to plan and prepare.  

Work on Issues of Social Justice

Reach Out and the Center for Civic Policy and Leadership are soliciting proposals from teams to work on Healing Communities through Social Justice in the Inland Empire.  For details please see their flyer and application.  Application Deadline is November 12.
 

Family Justice Center seeks Victim Advocate
Recent MPA Grad Kate Perry has taken a position with The Family Justice center of Riverside County. Congrats Kate!  
She notes they are seeking to hire a Victim Advocate and encourages applications. For more information on the position and how to apply contact Kate at

Summer Program for Undergraduate
The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program offers a six-week summer enrichment program designed to provide undergraduate students with a appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a understanding of career opportunities in the field, and higher knowledge and skills to pursue such careers.  The program includes two for-credit courses at Howard University for up to six credit hours, plus a seminar on professional writing. The Rangel Program covers tuition, travel, room and board, and provides a $3,200 stipend. ASPA Student Memberships 
The PA Department will pay for one year of your digital student membership in the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).  We encourage you to continually engage in your profession. Leaders are engaged!  Contact Toni Ditty with your request. READ PA TIMES HERE
