Mushrooms Trending on 2021 Food Trend Lists
 
Media and other organizations have begun releasing their 2021 food trend lists, and mushrooms are already showing up strongly.
 
Mushrooms have placed atop the Whole Foods 2021 Food Trends List – among the most prestigious and widely circulated trends lists – in the “Wellness Through Food” trend. You can see the story in the popular online food magazine Kitchn here, and see the original Whole Foods press release here.
 
“A lot of people looking for wellness benefits from their meals, so naturally healthful products like… mushrooms…are topping the lists,” notes Kitchn. The press release states: “The lines are blurring between the supplement and grocery aisles, and that trend will accelerate in 2021. Suppliers are incorporating functional ingredients like vitamin C, mushrooms and adaptogens...For obvious reasons, people want this pronto.”
 
The article later notes mushroom jerky as a top food in the trend for “Fruit and Vegetable Jerky.”
 
In addition, Phil Lempert – renowned grocer influencer and advisor who is often called the “Supermarket Guru” – named blending a top 2021 trend. See his story in Forbes here.  He states: “What will the future hold in 2021?…More blended foods – both made at home and bought ready made in stores building on the success of the Mushroom Council and James Beard Foundation’s blended burger success – the combination of mushrooms and ground beef – that is already being extended to other proteins and other vegetables.”
