~~~ Gazette Special, Transport Consultation ~~~
Greetings from Glasgow Eco Trust and we hope you are safe and well.
Connecting Communities consultation
Glasgow City Council has launched a consultation about ambitious plans for a new:
  • Transport strategy for the city
  • City centre transport plan
  • Liveable neighbourhoods plan
These strategies aim to:
  • reduce dependency on the private car
  • make walking and cycling the first choice for many people for many journeys
Currently
  • over 50% of journeys in the city are less than 3 kilometres (under 2 miles)
  • over 50% of Glaswegians do not own a car
Many thanks to everyone that was able to attend and contribute to one of our discussion sessions over the past week. There are a few days left to respond to the consultation.
You don’t need to answer all of the questions – the important thing is to use the open questions near the end of the survey to tell the Council in your own words what you want to see for transport in the city.
The deadline for responding to the consultation is Friday 30 October.
Local issues - Liveable Neighbourhoods
Over the past few years there have been a range of transport issues in the local area which are all barriers to creating Liveable Neighbourhoods. If you have been affected by any of these issues then please respond to this consultation.
  • Number 4 bus route being cut, cuts to other services and increased fares
  • Safety issues on the school run
  • Pavement parking
  • Campaigned for a better crossing instead of the double roundabout at Danes Drive. Westland Drive and Victoria Park Drive North
  • Parking and travel congestion during events at Scotstoun Stadium
  • Lack of street level secure cycle parking and storage for tenements and high rise properties
  • Lack of Nextbike stations
  • Lack of crossings and traffic calming on South Street
  • Residential streets being used as 'rat runs'
  • re-regulate the buses so that we can control fares, plan bus routes to go where people want to go, and integrate with rail and subway systems.
  • buses back in public ownership
  • use the new powers they were given in the 2019 Transport Act.
