The Latest News from the MGCA President

2020 has been a challenging year in a lot of ways. COVID has presented us with many challenges, from businesses being forced to close for long periods of time, to having to implement social distancing measures, to ammunition being scarce with insanely high prices. I would like to thank the members of MGCA for doing the right thing and helping us to keep the facility completely operational. As you know, we had to cancel our fall membership drive at Bass Pro Shops, and it is very likely that we will have to cancel the February Membership Drive as well. Fortunately, we have been able to add online capabilities for renewals and new memberships.

A few reminders –
  • If you aren’t sure if you should do something, do not do that thing until you have asked a staff member.
  • Please clean up after yourselves, this includes your hulls on the shotgun range.
  • Be kind and respectful to other members and never handle another member’s property, especially their firearms, without their permission.
As winter sets upon us, please remember to bring the appropriate gear with you to stay warm and safe. During heavy snowfall club hours may have to be adjusted to allow for snow removal, please be patient.

Happy Holidays!!

Range Etiquette Rule of Thumb
If you brought it to the range, then take it when you leave; this includes your waste—targets, hulls, cartridges, etc.
If you did NOT bring it to the range, then do NOT take it with you; this includes wood logs, target stands, other people’s property, etc.

Targets
To ensure the safety of all members and guests, do not shoot any steel targets with armor piercing ammunition!

And please do not shoot at or over the berms.

MGCA Hours
The operating hours for MGCA ranges begin 15 minutes AFTER sunrise and end 15 minutes BEFORE sunset.

As you are checking the weather before going to the range, be sure to check the sunrise and sunset times, too. Click on the logo for the link.
Please pick up your slugs!
With deer season approaching, remember to pick up your shells. Please help keep the ranges clean.
Membership Report
It is almost that time of year again to renew your memberships.  The new cards are ready and we can start to process the 2021 memberships and guest passes.  Due to COVID-19 we are not going to be having our annual Membership Drive at Bass Pro on Saturday November 7th and Sunday November 8th

You can still Mail your applications with the needed copy of your FOID card and check to;
MGCA – Membership
P.O. Box 9251
Peoria, IL  61612-9251.

You also have the option of going to midwestgca.com and completing the online process.  You will need to create an account and then verify it with the email that you will be sent before you can proceed with the renewal process.  Please check your Spam folder if you do not see this email in your inbox.

We have discussed different ways to make shooting easier for individuals who cannot stand or have problems standing for long periods of time to shoot.  So, we have ordered the frames for and are going to be installing shooting benches on the pistol ranges like the ones on Range 1.  These locations will allow you to sit in a chair or a wheelchair and roll right up to them.   We continue to improve our club and make sure that anybody can enjoy the sport of shooting.  If you have any recommendations please feel free to share them with the Board of Directors.

As of October 1, 2020, we have had a total of 1778 memberships and 152 guest passes purchased this year.  We have had a total of 262 online memberships and guest passes since the process went live on May 21, 2020.

Don't forget to display your membership cards and guest passes at ALL times while at the range.
Pick up your hulls!
Shotgun shooters, please pick up your hulls when you are done on the shotgun range. MGCA does not have any special equipment to pick up the hulls; it is done with the range officer and volunteers spending hours and hours using rakes and wheelbarrows. The more you clean up after yourselves, the more time those taking care of the ranges can spend on maintaining the property, the equipment, the targets, and the backers.
