Dear Community,

I’m feeling the chill on my fingers as I write to you. A new season is here and in LA it may only last for a minute so I hope you find some cozy ways to warm up. I welcome you to all draw near to the warmth of Torah this Sunday for our first Nefesh Sunday Boost of 5781. 11am Torah Study 12:30 Middot learning and growing and discussion. See below for some lovely thoughts shared by Nefesh Kin Melanie Weiner about the middot learning.

This year we are focusing on the complex, fantastic and juicy narratives of Torah beginning with Abraham and Sarah’s story this Sunday at 11am. We will have a different narrative each month to dive into.

12:30 we will explore Mussar and the middot (soul character traits, values) of our tradition. We will have a middah for each month AND check in on the middah that you are working on for the year. The middah for the month of November is Yirah. Yirah is fearawe and radical amazement. It was the theme for Yom Kippur’s morning service and you can see that sermon here. Please register in advance and you will find the texts for the class.

This Sunday is also our first Nefesh Boost for kids at the SIJCC’s Jewish Learning Center at 9:30am. Kids Boost info

The Tikkun Collective is now sending a weekly email on Wednesdays with updates and ways to be involved with Nefesh in the repair of the world. If you would like to join the email list please let us know by sending an email to Ellen ekennedy@nefeshla.org

We have heard your requests and are working on some videos of prayers and songs to share with you. Friday we will be sharing! Stay tuned.

Our next Shabbat is November 6.
Please remember to VOTE. VOTE. VOTE.

Blessings to you,
Your Nefesh team
