Faith like a Child:
Have you ever wondered what it means to have faith like a child? If you were to define or describe it, what would your thoughts be? There can be a number of correct answers to this, so we’ll share our thoughts and elaborate a bit on how we are currently living this out.
First, lets look at a passage in scripture that talks of child-like faith. In Luke 18:17, we read, “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein.” Now, obviously this is not referring to the age or size of a person, but rather the level of trust and simple acceptance of the given situation. That is where the “little child” idea originates. Adults tend to be over-intellectual; children are not. Adults tends to be over-analytical; children are not. Adults tend to complicate things; children keep things simple. Adults tend to want all the answers or try to figure out everything; children have almost a blind-trust and unwavering confidence. Take a look at the picture associated with this article. The child just jumps into the arms of the parent without any fear or question of what could happen. Our heavenly Father desires us to jump in His arms. Trusting in the promises of His Word and having that simple faith that He has all things in control. Here are a few promises from scripture to encourage you:
. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things in him that
strengtheneth me.
. Philippians 4:6-7 In nothing be anxious; but in
everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto
God. And the peace of God, which passeth all
understanding, shall guard your hearts and your
thoughts in Christ Jesus.
. Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Catherine and I have been reading a devotion through the YouVersion Bible app. I’d like to quote a portion of the Bible plan from Mark Batterson’s Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God.
“All our identity issues are fundamental misunderstandings of who God is. Guilt issues are a misunderstanding of God’s grace. Control issues are a misunderstanding of God’s sovereignty. Anger
issues are a misunderstanding of God’s mercy. Pride issues are a misunderstanding of God’s greatness.
Trust issues are a misunderstanding of God’s goodness. If you struggle with any of those issues, it’s time
to let God be the loudest voice in your life.” We genuinely believe this is another important part of child-like
faith. Tuning out all the other “voices” that cause “grown up” feelings and emotions, and trust in the One
who is able!
Right now we are doing our best to walk in this child like faith. Perhaps you find yourself in a similar situation. The future looks foggy and life’s road is full of twists and turns. You don’t have the answers or see the outcome. We want to encourage you to have faith like a child. We don’t know what exactly is going on with our visa situation, but we do know our Heavenly Father has our best interest in mind. We do know He will direct our path and future. We do know He has us here, for now, for a plan, and a purpose. Our child-like faith lets us trust. Even though we do not have answers or an understanding for the current plan or purpose, our child-like faith is exercised with contentment and peace.
We are jumping into the Father’s arms!
