Welcome to the October issue of Golfing NSW.

Thank you to everyone who entered our September competition, which asked:

In stroke play, a player removes a post defining out of bounds which interferes with his swing. What is the ruling?

The correct answer (which only 40% of entrants knew) is:
The player gets two penalty strokes UNLESS he replaces the post before making the stroke and eliminates the improvement by doing so.

The explanation? An out of bounds post is a boundary object which cannot be moved if it improves the conditions affecting the stroke for the player (Rule 8.1a(1)). However, as per Rule 8.1c, there is no penalty if, before making the next stroke, the player eliminates that improvement by restoring the original conditions as detailed by Rule 8.1c(1).

The two lucky winners of a $500 voucher each to spend at The Golf Society were Karen Willoughby from Belmont Golf Club and David Wilson from Wellington Golf Club - congratulations to you both!

In the October issue...meet Golf NSW team member and roving golfer, Emmanuel Aravanis...read about the eight new Regional Managers supporting Clubs and Districts across the State...get the latest news on Golf NSW events...and more!

Until next month...we hope you enjoy the issue, stay safe and healthy, and wish you good golfing.

After a break of over 7 months, two Golf NSW Championship events were played this month under COVID-safe conditions.
A big congratulations to Lucie Quilliam and Chris Campbell who took out the Women's and Men's NSW Srixon Mid-Amateur Championship - the second trophy in two years for Chris!
At Coolamon Sports & Recreation Club, Billy Brigden claimed his second Men's NSW Sand Green Championship in as many years, in an exciting playoff...

This month, we introduce Emmanuel "Manny" Aravanis - Event Coordinator for Golf NSW.

If you have played in any Golf NSW events, there's a good chance that you've met Emmanuel.
Manny is a passionate golfer and loves playing at different courses all over the State.
Learn about Manny's favourite music, food, and how he likes his eggs...
It's that time of year when the best of the best at Clubs across the state battle it out for the title of Club Champion.

Many achieve that honour maybe once, or twice. Kim Burke from Shelly Beach Golf Club and Wayne Carpenter from Duntryleague Golf Club (pictured) are super-achievers winning a total of 20 and 14 Club Championships respectively.

But there's more...
Golf NSW and Jack Newton Junior Golf have bolstered their commitment to Club Support services with the launch of eight Regional Managers across NSW and the ACT.
The Regional Managers will be responsible for the delivery of development initiatives and support programs to all Clubs and Districts in the area that they service.

The appointments will ensure that all Clubs can access the raft of services and benefits provided by both organisations...

It was a big month for St Hallett holes-in-one, with 34 players from 17 clubs achieving the rare feat, including Jack Richards (pictured)!

A hole is one is a most sought after achievement. Did you know that only 1-2% of golfers score an ace in a year? And that the average years of playing golf for a player before making an ace is 24?

What would the odds be for what happened last month at Pymble Golf Club?

Entries are now open for the 2021 NSW Amateur Championship which will be played for the first time at Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club and Kooindah Waters Golf Club on the Central Coast of NSW.

If your handicap is less than 5.4 for men, and 12.4 for women, you are eligible to compete!
