A note from Damien

Kia ora Koutou, welcome to another edition of The Pipeline, things are certainly staying busy but with the weather getting better sprits are staying high and all of us here at Mount Primary are positive and enjoying our time together.

Classes 2021
Firstly thank you to you all for your trust and faith you put in us to create our classes for 2021. I have been made aware of a number of parents who have reiterated their trust in us and not been in touch as they are confident in the teachers knowledge of their child(ren). As we have now passed the deadline for any considerations we will move forward in creating our classes for 2021.
1 slight tweak I want to make you aware of is that we have always talked about friends to be in next years class with, this has caused issues sometimes as friends are not always good learning together and sometimes need to be separated for their own good (this is not always the case). This year we are talking about learning buddies rather than friends, this gives a more clear focus on what/who is best for their learning rather than just a social connection. I am confident this will work as well as it has in the past but is also clearer in our intent.

Staffing for 2021
We are working through the process of confirming staffing for 2021, this is a significantly complex process, one that will not be complete for another few weeks yet. I can however confirm a few things for 2021, Paulette Brown has decided to give up her role as the Leader of our Junior Team and focus more on her classroom teaching responsibilities. Paulette has been a great team leader for our school and a staunch advocate for quality junior school teaching, something we pride ourselves on. We have been through a process to find our next Junior Team Leader, I am excited to announce that Erika Purdy who currently teaches in Room 10 has been appointed and will begin the transition process of picking up this role next year. I'd like to thank Paulette for her dedication and hard work leading our Junior Team and welcome Erika to our Leadership Team from 2021.
In sad news for our school I also want to let you know that Logan Donnelly who is currently teaching in Rm 14 has won a position elsewhere next year. This is sad news for us but good news for him and we send him off with our best wishes.
I will continue to keep you up to date with any other staffing updates as I am able to.

There's plenty going on this term, thanks to Covid staying quiet we have some class/team trips, athletics days and end of year events. Please keep an eye on the comms coming out about these things and ensure your friends and whanau are in the loop too.

I'll look forward to seeing many of you around this term at these events.

Stay safe

Term 4 is a fun but potentially stressful time of the year as everyone including students, parents and teachers are getting busy with the demands that come with it nearing the end of the year.  We are very fortunate to have an amazing team of staff here at Mount Primary who are trying to do their very best looking after often very tired children, volunteering their own time at end of year events, planning for next year as well as juggling their own family commitments.  So please try and be patient with our teachers and work together to support our students so we can all end a really challenging year on a high note.

The next Board meeting will be in the staffroom tonight.

We need a few parents to help us with our junior readers.  This is an easy job that is a HUGE help to our teachers!  It involves re-boxing the returned books on a regular basis and you can help either after school drop-off in the morning, or before pick-up at the end of the day.  If you would like to be part of this valuable team please email Barbara - barbarat@mtprimary.school.nz

Hello sports fans,

I am pleased to confirm that our Term 4 sports are finally underway, with our Touch teams starting their season last week, and our Rippa Rugby and Flippaball beginning this week, and finally Volleyball next Friday.  Let’s hope for an uninterrupted end to our sports year.  If anyone has any sports uniforms from Term 1 - 3 could you please return these to the sports office as soon as possible, thank you.

Ten of our Year 5/6 girls (Ellie, Daniella, Eva, Jaymie, Rose, Nyalea, Jasmine, Lizzy, Brooke, Michelle) had the opportunity yesterday to attend the annual Girls Only Sports Day hosted by Sports Bay Of Plenty.  After so many events being cancelled this year, there were approximately 180 very enthusiastic girls from the Western Bay of Plenty that attended.  With coaches for various codes giving the girls an opportunity to try some sports codes they may never have played before.  These included futsal, badminton, netball, touch rugby, ultimate frisbee and spike ball.  It also gave the girls a chance to meet other girls from local schools, have some fun and build confidence.  Thank you Sports Bay Of Plenty!
